Team Notes: Dartmouth Looks to Keep Streak Alive
HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth won both ECAC games last weekend, to push its win streak to three games. On Friday at home against Union, five players scored in a 5-1 victory. The next night against Rensselaer, the Big Green recorded its second shut out of the season in a 3-0 victory. Freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded nine saves in the shutout.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
With eight games remaining in the regular season, Dartmouth holds
a 12-8-0 record overall and an 8-6-0 mark in the ECAC. Currently,
the team is tied for third in the league with 16 points. The Big
Green are four points behind Harvard who is in second place, but
only three points ahead of Clarkson who is in eighth place. Cornell
is leading the conference with a perfect 14-0-0 record and 28
points.
Multiple Dartmouth skaters have double-digit points this season and three are over 20 points. Sophomore Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) leads the team with 22 points. She has a team-leading 12 goals and 10 assists. Sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) is second with 21 points on eight goals and a team-high 13 assists. Senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) is third with 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) is fourth on the team with 18 points on nine goals and nine assists. Junior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) is third on the team in assists with 11 and has 17 total points. Junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) has 15 points on six goals and nine assists. Lauren Kelly (Milton, Ont.) leads the freshman class with six points on one goal and five assists.
In net, Holdcroft has started 13 games and played 760:54 minutes. She has 219 saves, a .876 save percentage, a 2.44 goals against average, an 8-5-0 record and two shutouts. Sophomore Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.) has started seven games and played 442:41 minutes. She has 132 saves, a .892 save percentage, a 2.17 goals against average and a 4-3-0 record.
The offense is averaging 3.45 goals per game and is allowing 2.40 goals against. The team is averaging 32.8 shots per game. The Big Green are 23 of 94 on the power play or 24.5 percent of the time. On the penalty kill, Dartmouth has only allowed eight goals in 81 chances.
NATIONAL STATISTICS
In scoring by a defenseman, Nanji continues to lead the nation.
The sophomore is averaging 1.10 points per game. Cornell's Laura
Fortino is second with 1.05 points per game.
The Big Green are second in the nation on the power play converting 24.5 percent of the time. Cornell leads the nation at 26.7 percent and Mercyhurst is third at 24.3 percent.
In the penalty kill, Dartmouth is fifth in the nation at 90.1 percent. Cornell is first at 97.0 percent.
POINTS STREAK
Junior Geneva
Kliman (Toronto, Ont.) has the longest current points
streak on the team. She has recorded a point in the last four
contests, tallying a goal and three assists in that span. Trunzo
had a six-game stretch earlier this season where she recorded at
least one point.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Two Big Green skaters garnered an ECAC weekly award for their play
this past weekend. Dumais earned the MLX Skates Player of the week
for tallying three goals and three assists in three games.
Holdcroft was named the MLX Skates Rookie of the week after posting
a 0.67 goals against average in three victories. It was the second
time this season Holdcroft has earned rookie of the week.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale enters the weekend with a 5-12-2 record overall and a 4-7-1
mark in the ECAC. The team is currently in ninth in the conference
with nine points. In its last six games, the Bulldogs are 1-5. Last
weekend, Yale lost at Clarkson, 2-1 in overtime, and suffered a 2-0
loss at St. Lawrence.
Senior Bray Ketchum leads the team in points with 14 on six goals and eight assists. Freshman Jackie Raines is the only other player with double-digit points. She has 10 points on six goals and four assists. Sophomore Alyssa Zupon is third on the team with seven points on four goals and three assists.
In net, senior Jackee Snikeris has started 11 games and played 607:16 minutes. She has 340 saves, a .937 save percentage, a 2.27 goals against average and a 3-7-0 record.
SERIES HISTORY
It will be the 70th meeting between the two teams. Dartmouth has
dominated the series, 63-4-2. The two squads tied in the first
meeting on January 27, 1978 in Hanover. The Big Green have won the
last five in the series. The Bulldogs have not won at home against
the Big Green since 1986.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown has a 2-14-3 record overall and a 1-8-3 mark in the ECAC,
entering the weekend. The Bears are in 11th in the conference with
five points. The squad has lost five consecutive games and has not
earned a victory since beating Rensselaer on Nov. 13. Last weekend,
Brown lost at St. Lawrence, 4-2, and lost at Clarkson, 5-3.
Sophomore Laurie Jolin leads the team with 11 points. She has a team-best eight goals and three assists. Sophomore Alena Polenska is second on the team with nine points on four goals and five assists. Two players are tied for third with seven points. Sophomore Erica Farrer has three goals and four assists and freshman Jessica Hoyl has two goals and five assists.
SERIES HISTORY
The two Ivy League foes will match up for the 73rd time in their
history. Brown won the first contest at home on January 13,
1979. The Bears won the first four before the Big Green earned
their first victory in the series in 1982. The two teams have gone
back and forth throughout the series with Dartmouth gaining the
edge recently. The squad holds a 36-28-8 advantage over Brown and
have gained the series lead by winning the last nine contests. The
Bears last won at home in 2006.
