Dartmouth Reveals End-of-Year Awards & 2011-12 Captains
HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team had a stellar 2010-11 season that was capped with the program's eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Big Green recently announced the awards for this past season and that juniors Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.), Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) and Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) will be the captains for the 2011-12 season.
Foley not only was named captain, but earned the team's Most Valuable Player honor after her fantastic year. Foley finished the season with 34 games played, 17 goals, 15 assists and 32 points. The assistant captain was third on the team in points and led the team and the ECAC in power play goals with nine. In conference play, she tallied 15 goals and nine assists for 24 points. She was named first-team All-Ivy, second-team All-ECAC and made the New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star Team. In three seasons, Foley has recorded 32 goals and 37 assists for 69 points.
The Offensive MVP went to sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.). Dumais won the Rookie of the Year last season and put up even better numbers this year. She led the team with 38 points on 18 goals and 20 assists. She finished with eight power play goals and six game-winning goals. For her career, she has 28 goals and 35 assists for 63 points. The highlight of the season for Dumais came in the third game of the best-of-three series against Clarkson in the opening round of the ECAC Tournament. Dumais scored the game and series-winning goal with 1:29 remaining in overtime.
Freshman goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the Rookie of the Year and the Defensive MVP honor. Holdcroft played in 27 of 34 games, made 578 saves, had a .902 save percentage, a 2.34 goals against average, an 18-9-0 record and recorded four shutouts. She had the second-most saves ever by a Dartmouth freshman goaltender. She earned the ECAC Rookie of the week honor twice and the goaltender of the week award once. She was also named honorable mention All-Ivy.
The Most Improved Player award went to sophomore Lisa Berreman (Eagan, Minn.). The defenseman played in 31 games with a majority of them as a starter. She scored seven points this season on one goal and six assists. The lone goal, the first of her career, came in the 4-1 victory at Harvard in the ECAC Tournament semifinals. Last season, Berreman played in 26 games, tallying four assists.
The Unsung Hero Award was given out to the entire Dartmouth women's hockey team. The squad went from being picked eighth in the preseason in the ECAC to making the finals of the ECAC Tournament and earning a spot in the NCAA postseason. The team finished the season ranked eighth in the nation. The Big Green had four players record 30 or more points, seven skaters with 20 or more points and had 15 players tally a point and an assist during the season.
Foley, Fischer and Hobeika will be called upon to captain the team in 2011-12 after being assistant captains this past year. Fischer finished the season with 28 points on nine goals and 19 assists. This year, she was named the ECAC's Co-Best Defensive Forward. Hobeika tallied 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists. The three forwards were routinely on the ice together during the season as one of the most dynamic lines in the ECAC.
Dartmouth will lose four seniors to graduation: Alyssa Boehm (Waterford, Conn.), Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.), Larissa Roche (Thorhild, Alta) and current captain Katie Horner (Brooklyn Park, N.Y.).
