Team Notes: Dartmouth Heads into Holiday Slate Against Ranked Teams

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth was shutout at home in both games this past weekend, losing to St. Lawrence, 2-0, and to Clarkson, 1-0.

Sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had the best weekend for the Big Green in the losses, making 42 saves and allowing only two goals.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
The Dartmouth women’s hockey team enters the week with a 3-4-1 record overall and are 3-2-1 in ECAC Hockey. The Big Green fell into a tie for fifth in the conference with Princeton and St. Lawrence. All three teams have seven points, but both the Tigers and the Saints have played two more ECAC Hockey games. Cornell leads the league with 12 points and a 6-1-1 record.   

Through eight games, Dartmouth has had 10 players record a point, eight skaters with multiple points and five players with at least one goal and one assist. Senior Kelly Foley (South Boston, Mass.) leads the team with eight points on a team-best five goals and three assists. Junior Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) and senior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alberta) are tied for second with seven points. Dumais has three goals and four assists and Fischer has one goal and a team-high six assists. Junior Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ontario) leads the Big Green defensemen with two goals and three assists for five points. Morgan Illikainen (Grand Rapids, Minn.) leads all freshmen with three points on three assists.

Holdcroft has played all but one game for Dartmouth. She has 172 saves, a .935 save percentage, a 1.70 goals against average, a 3-3-1 record and two shutouts in 422:37 minutes.

The Big Green are averaging 2.12 goals per game, while allowing 2.25 goals against. The squad takes 26.2 shots per game and commits 3.60 penalties per game. Dartmouth is 5-for-41 on the power play, converting 12.2 percent of the time, and is 23-for-27 on the penalty kill at 85.2 percent.

Dartmouth is 5-for-33 on the power play, converting 15.2 percent of the time, and is 19-for-22 on the penalty kill at 86.4 percent.

CLOSING IN ON 100
Senior Erica Dobos (Bethel, Pa.) has played in 98 games in her career for the Big Green. Barring an injury, Dobos will become the 72nd player to reach the century mark when she plays at home against Northeastern on Saturday. Fellow seniors, Foley, Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.) and Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) have a chance to play their 100th game this season.

TOUGH WEEKEND
With the two losses this weekend, it marked the first time Dartmouth was swept in a home ECAC weekend since it lost to Clarkson (2-3, ot) and St. Lawrence (2-4) on Jan. 14-15, 2011.

TOUGH WEEKEND PART 2

The Big Green were shutout in back-to-back home games for the first time in six years. The last time it happened also was against St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Nov. 11-12, 2005. Dartmouth fell to the Saints, 3-0, and then lost to the Golden Knights the next night, 1-0.

SAVES-A-PLENTY
Despite taking two losses, Holdcroft improved her season numbers with 42 saves on a .955 save percentage in the games this past weekend. She also only allowed two goals for a 1.02 goals against average.

On the season, she is fourth in the conference in save percentage at .946 and fourth in goals against average at 1.32.

In the national statistics, she is ninth in goals against average (1.70) and 10th in save percentage (.935).

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
The ninth-ranked Crimson are having a stellar season with their only loss coming at nationally ranked Cornell with both teams shorthanded due to the Four Nations Cup. After defeating Clarkson, 2-1, and St. Lawrence, 6-1, at home on Nov. 17-18, Harvard is 5-1-0 overall and 5-1-0 in ECAC Hockey (third in the conference).

Sophomore Marissa Gedman leads the team with seven points on three goals and four assists. Four Harvard players are tied for second with six points. Junior Jillian Dempsey has four goals and two assists, sophomore Lyndsey Fry has three goals and three assists, junior Josephine Pucci has two goals and four assists and sophomore Gina McDonald has two goals and four assists.

At the goaltender position, Laura Bellamy has played all six games. She has 148 saves, a .943 save percentage, a 1.50 goals against average, a 5-1-0 record and one shutout in 360:43 minutes.

Harvard averages 3.67 goals per game, while allowing 1.50 goals against. The Crimson take 29.8 shots per game and commit 5.80 penalties. The team is 9-for-29 (31.0 percent) on the power play and 30-for-35 (85.7 percent) on the penalty kill.

SERIES HISTORY
Dartmouth and Harvard will play for the 83rd time on Wednesday. The two teams played on Nov. 23, but the game was not completed in time for this publication. The Big Green lead the series, 43-36-3. The squads first met on January 11, 1978 at Harvard. Dartmouth won the contest 9-2, and took three of the first five. The Crimson have controlled the series of late, winning eight of the last 10 contests. Harvard won both games during the regular season in 2010-11, but the Big Green earned a 4-1 victory in the ECAC Hockey Tournament semifinals to end Harvard’s season.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
10th-ranked Northeastern enters the game against Dartmouth with a 10-3-0 record and are 5-2-0 in Hockey East (third in the league). The Huskies last played on Nov. 17 and 18 when they played a home-and-home with Boston College. The Eagles won both contests, winning 3-1 at Northeastern and 4-1 at home. The two losses ended a six-game winning streak for Northeastern. The Huskies won 10 of their first 11 games.

Junior Casey Pickett leads the team with 17 points on nine goals and eight assists. Freshman Kendall Coyne is second with six goals and nine assists for 15 points. Junior Rachel Llanes and freshman Lucie Povova are tied for third with 11 points. Each player has four goals and seven assists.

In net, senior Florence Schelling has played in 12 of the team’s 13 games. She has 314 saves, a .943 save percentage, a 1.59 goals against average, a 9-3-0 record and four shutouts in 717:47 minutes.

Northeastern is averaging 3.46 goals per game, while allowing 1.62 goals against. The Huskies take 33.8 shots per game and commit 4.60 penalties per game.  On the power play, the team is 13-for-65 (20.0 percent) and is 50-for-55 (90.9 percent) on the penalty kill.

SERIES HISTORY
The contest will mark the 37th time the two teams have met on the ice, but the first since 2001. Northeastern leads the all-time series, 26-7-3. The series began on Jan. 15, 1983 with the Huskies winning, 5-1, at Thompson Arena. The Big Green earned their first win over Northeastern almost 10 years later in a 6-3 win at home on Jan. 14, 1992. A majority of the games have been played in Hanover with 21 of the 36 contests coming at Thompson. In those games, the Huskies are 16-4-1. In the last contest the two teams played, Dartmouth won at home, 4-2, on March 4, 2001.
