Team Notes: Big Green Take Non-Conference Road Trip
HANOVER, N.H. — Last weekend, Dartmouth hosted Clarkson and St. Lawrence. The Big Green lost in overtime to Clarkson, 3-2. Junior Kelly Foley(Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) each scored goals. Against the Saints the next night, Dartmouth again scored two goals, but lost, 4-2. Foley and junior Erica Dobos (Bethel Park, Pa.) recorded the goals.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
The team enters the weekend with a 9-8-0 overall record and a
6-6-0 mark in the ECAC. The squad is sixth in the conference with
12 points. Cornell leads the league with a perfect 12-0-0 mark in
the ECAC.
Multiple skaters have tallied points for Dartmouth, with Nanji leading the way. Nanji leads the team with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists. Foley is second on the team with 17 points. She has nine goals and eight assists. There are two players tied for third on the team with 15 points. Senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) has eight goals and seven assists, and sophomoreCamille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) has five goals and 10 assists. JuniorJenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) and junior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) each have 12 points, and sophomore Sally Komarek (Minneapolis, Minn.) rounds out the double-digit point scorers with 11. Lauren Kelly (Milton, Ont.) leads the freshman class with six points on one goal and five assists. Overall, the squad has had 16 players who have recorded a point, and had 14 players record a goal and an assist.
In net, the playing time has been split between freshman Lindsay Holdcroft(Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.). Holdcroft has started 10 games and played 580:54 minutes. She has 183 saves, a 3.00 goals against average, a 5-5-0 record, a .863 save percentage and one shutout. Woodcox has started seven games, totaling 442:41 minutes. She has 132 saves, a 2.17 goals against average, a 4-3-0 record and a .892 save percentage.
The team is averaging 3.29 goals per game, while giving up 2.71 goals per game. The offense has been aggressive, taking 32.9 shots per game. On the power play, the Big Green have scored goals on 19 of their 82 chances or 23.2 percent of the time. On the penalty kill, Dartmouth has allowed goals on eight out of the 64 chances.
LEADING THE NATION
Four months into the season, and Nanji continues to lead the nation in points
per game by a defenseman. The sophomore is averaging 1.12 ppg. on
11 goals and eight assists. Laura Fortino of Cornell is the next
closest defensive player at 1.00 ppg.
GOAL STREAK
Foley has scored a goal in three consecutive games and now has
seven on the season. It is the second longest streak for a Big
Green skater this season. Nanji scored in four consecutive games
from Nov.12 through Nov. 19.
CONFERENCE LEADERS
With ECAC play getting back into full swing, multiple Dartmouth
players continue to make a mark on the conference leaders. Nanji
leads in defensive scoring, is fourth in points and is third in
goals. Foley is tied for fifth in points and tied for fourth in
goals. In the team leaders, Dartmouth is second in the conference
in scoring at 3.08 goals per game.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Vermont enters todya’s game with a 4-11-9 record overall and
a 1-8-4 mark in Hockey East play. The Catamounts are 0-3-1 in their
last four games.
This past weekend, Vermont played two games at UConn and failed to score a goal in either contest. On Friday, the Huskies won, 2-0, and on Saturday UConn earned a 1-0 victory. The last win for Vermont came on Jan. 2 at Union in a 3-1 victory.
Senior Celeste Doucet leads the team in points with 12. She has four goals and eight assists. Sophomore Emily Walsh is second on the team with eight points on two goals and six assists. Two players are tied for third on the team with eight points. Sophomore Erin Wente has six goals and two assists, and junior Kailey Nash has two goals and six assists.
In net, freshman Roxanne Douville has started 15 games and
played 928:24 minutes. She has 396 saves, a .925 save percentage, a
1.94 goals against average and a 2-7-6 record.
SERIES HISTORY
The meeting between the Catamounts and the Big Green will be the
37th meeting between the two schools. Dartmouth has dominated the
series with a 33-3-0 mark, including victories in the last 31
games. The two teams first met on February 14, 1978 with Vermont
winning 4-3 at Thompson Arena. The Catamounts won three of the
first five, but have not won in the series since 1981.
