Team Notes: Dartmouth Home for Two Against Clarkson and St. Lawrence

HANOVER, N.H. — Last weekend, Dartmouth played at RPI and Union and came away with a split in the two contests. At RPI, junior Erica Dobos (Bethel Park, Pa.) and sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) each scored goals, but it wasn’t enough with the Engineers winning, 5-2. Against the Dutchwomen, three different Big Green skaters scored in the game for a 4-1 victory. Junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) recorded two goals, and sophomore Sally Komarek (Minneapolis, Minn.) and junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) each had one.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
The Big Green play two ECAC games at Thompson Arena this weekend. The last time Dartmouth played two conference games at home on back-to-back nights was the opening weekend of the season on Oct. 29-30. The team enters the weekend with a 9-6-0 overall record and a 6-4-0 mark in the ECAC. The squad is in a tie for fifth in the conference with 12 points. Cornell leads the league with a perfect 10-0-0 mark in the ECAC.

Multiple skaters have tallied points for Dartmouth, with sophomore Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) leading the way. Nanji leads the team with 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists. There are three players tied for second on the team with 15 points. Senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) has eight goals and seven assists, Foley has seven goals and eight assists and Dumais has five goals and 10 assists. Hobeika and junior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) each have 12 points, and Komarek rounds out the double-digit point scorers with 11. Lauren Kelly (Milton, Ont.) leads the freshmen class with six points on one goal and five assists. Overall, the squad has had 16 players who have recorded a point, and had 14 players record a goal and an assist.

In net, the playing time has been split between freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.). Holdcroft has started nine games and played 421:04 minutes. She has 149 saves, a 2.88 goals against average, a 5-4-0 record, a .856 save percentage and one shutout. Woodcox has started six games, totaling 378:54 minutes. She has 106 saves, a 2.06 goals against average, a 4-2-0 record and a .891 save percentage.

The team is averaging 3.47 goals per game, while giving up 2.60 goals per game. The offense has been aggressive, taking 32.5 shots per game. On the power play, the Big Green have scored goals on 17 of their 76 chances or 22.4 percent of the time. On the penalty kill, Dartmouth has allowed goals on seven out of the 59 chances.

LEADING THE NATION
With two assists last weekend, Nanji continues to hold the top spot in the nation in points per game by a defenseman. The sophomore has scored 18 points in 15 games for a 1.20 points per game average. Cornell’s Laura Fortino stayed in second place and is averaging 1.07 points per game.

COACH’S MARK
Head coach Mark Hudak reached the century mark on Saturday. In only his 161st ECAC contest, he earned his 100th victory. He now has a career conference record of 100-47-14.

ANOTHER 100
Earlier this season, Trunzo played in her 100th game on November 19 at Harvard. She became the 69th player in the program’s history to play in 100 games. On Saturday, senior Alyssa Beohm (Waterford, Conn.) played her 100th game in the victory at Union. Barring injury, senior captain Katie Horner (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) should also reach the century mark by the end of the season. She has currently played in 92 games, and there are 13 games remaining in the regular season. 

CAREER HIGHS
Two Big Green defensmen set new career highs in the loss against RPI. Sophomore Margaux Sharp (Carleton Place, Ont.) recorded two assists, which bested her previous high in assists and points of one. Junior Geneva Kliman (Toronto, Ont.) also had two assists, which set new highs in assists and points.

PROMOTIONS
Saturday's game against St. Lawrence will be the faculty/staff appreciation day, and it will be a Kid's conference. Faculty/Staff and families receive half price tickets to the game - advance sign up is encouraged through the Berry Ticket Office, 603-646-2466. Kids stick around after the game for autographs and the chance to ask your favorite Dartmouth players questions at your very own kid's conference.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson enters the weekend with a 6-12-3 record overall and a 3-5-1 mark in ECAC play. The Golden Knights have lost four straight games, and haven’t earned a victory since Nov. 28.

Last weekend, the squad hosted Princeton and Quinnipiac. Against the Tigers, Clakson failed to score in a 2-0 loss. In the game against the Bobcats, the Golden Knights scored twice, but Quinnipiac won in overtime, 3-2.

Senior Melissa Waldie leads the team in scoring with 13 points on nine goals and four assists. Junior Juana Baribeau has 11 points and is the only other skater with double-digit points. She has totaled four goals and seven assists. Freshman Jamie-Lee Rattray leads the team in assists with eight, and she has also scored one goal.

In net, senior Lauren Dahm has started 13 games and played 719:33 minutes. She has 354 saves, a .919 save percentage, a 2.58 goals against average, a 4-8-1 record and a shutout.

SERIES HISTORY
The contest will be the 17th time the two teams have met on the ice. Dartmouth leads the all-time series, 9-4-3. The first meeting between the two schools took place on February 10, 1979. The Golden Knights won the contest, 3-2, in overtime at Thompson Arena. The two teams split last season’s games with each team winning on the road. The last time Dartmouth beat Clarkson at Thompson Arena was on Nov. 24, 2007.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
The Saints have a 9-10-2 record overall and a 4-5-0 record in the ECAC entering the weekend. St. Lawrence has lost three straight, and has not had a win since it beat Mercyhurst on Dec. 10.

Last weekend, the team hosted Quinnipiac and Princeton and suffered two losses. Against the Bobcats, the Saints scored two goals, but fell, 3-2. In the game against the Tigers, St. Lawrence only managed one goal in the 3-1 loss.

Freshman Rylee Smith leads the team in points with 17. She has six goals and a team-best 11 assists. Sophomore Kelly Sabatine leads the team in goals with nine, and is second in points with 16. Two players, Vanessa Emond and Brooke Fernandez are tied for third with 14 points.

In net, senior Maxie Weisz has seen a majority of the action. She has started 13 games and played 757:46 minutes. She has 339 saves, a .914 save percentage, a 2.53 goals against average, a 5-7-1 record and one shutout.

SERIES HISTORY
When Dartmouth and St. Lawrence meet it will be the 51st time in the series history. The Big Green lead the all-time series, 27-21-2. The teams first met on Feb. 17, 1985 at St. Lawrence, with the Saints winning, 4-3. Dartmouth earned its first win in the series the next year at home, 3-1. St. Lawrence has controlled of late, winning six of the last eight. Each team won on its home ice last season.
