Team Notes: Dartmouth Heads Out on Final Road Trip of the Regular Season
HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth's
five-game winning streak came to an end on Feb. 4 against
Quinnipiac at Thompson Arena. The Bobcats used strong goaltending
play and shutout the Big Green, 4-0. Dartmouth took out its
frustrations the next night by beating Princeton, 7-0, on Feb. 5.
Six Big Green skaters scored goals in the victory.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
With two weekends left in the regular season, Dartmouth
is 15-9-0 overall and 11-7-0 in the ECAC. The team is third in the
ECAC and trails second-place Harvard by four points. Dartmouth
holds a slim two-point lead over fourth-place Quinnipiac, and has a
three-point lead over Clarkson and Princeton who are tied for
fifth. Cornell leads the conference with 35 points on a 17-0-1
record.
The Big Green have had lots of different players score for the team, including six players with over 20 points. Sophomore Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) leads the team with 26 points on 11 goals and a team-best 15 assists. Senior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) is second on the team with 25 points on a team-leading 14 goals and 11 assists. Sophomore Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) is the top scoring defenseman with 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points. Junior Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) is fourth on the team with 22 points. She has 11 goals and 11 assists. Junior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) is fifth with 21 points on seven goals and 14 assists. Junior Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) is sixth with 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists. Lauren Kelly (Milton, Ont.) leads the freshman class with six points on one goal and five assists. Overall, the squad has had 17 players who have recorded a point, and had 14 players record a goal and an assist.
In net, freshman Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has seen a majority of the action. She has started 17 games and played 1000:12 minutes. She has 313 saves, a 2.10 goals against average, an 11-6-0 record, a .899 save percentage and four shutouts. Back-up goaltender, sophomore Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.), has started seven games, totaling 442:41 minutes. She has 132 saves, a 2.17 goals against average, a 4-3-0 record and a .892 save percentage.
The team is averaging 3.50 goals per game, while allowing 2.21 goals per game. The offense has been aggressive, taking 33.4 shots per game. On the power play, the Big Green have scored goals on 28 of their 115 chances or 24.3 percent of the time. On the penalty kill, Dartmouth has allowed goals on 10 out of the 103 chances.
ECAC UPDATE
The ECAC playoffs are approaching quickly with 10 of the 12 teams
still playing for a spot in the tournament. Cornell and Harvard
have both clinched a spot in the tournament, Cornell has clinched
the top seed. Dartmouth can secure a spot with a win or a Yale
loss.
Only the number one seed is clinched, and all of the other spots are up for grabs. Only six points separate third place and eighth place.The top four teams host a first round best of three playoff series.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence enters the weekend with a 13-14-2 record overall and
a 8-9-0 mark in the ECAC. The Saints are in eighth place in the
conference. The team is two points out of seventh place, but only
two points ahead of ninth.
The Saints have lost three of their last four games, and seven of their last 11. SLU earned a split last weekend over Colgate and Cornell. Hosting Colgate on Feb. 4, the Saints earned a 4-2 victory. In the game against Cornell on Feb. 5, the Big Red came out on top, 2-1.
Sophomore Kelly Sabatine leads St. Lawrence with 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists. Junior Vanessa Emond is second with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists. Three players are tied for third with 18 points.
In net, senior Maxie Weisz has started 18 of the 29 games for
the Saints. She has played 1054:50 minutes, has 459 saves, a .918
save percentage, a 2.33 goals against average, an 8-9-1 record and
two shutouts.
SERIES HISTORY
When Dartmouth and St. Lawrence meet it will be the 52nd time in
the series history. The Big Green lead the all-time series,
27-22-2. The teams first met on Feb. 17, 1985 at St. Lawrence, with
the Saints winning, 4-3. Dartmouth earned its first win in the
series the next year at home, 3-1. St. Lawrence has controlled of
late, winning seven of the last nine. The Saints won at Thompson
Arena earlier this season, 4-2.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson enters the weekend with a 11-13-5 record overall and are
8-6-3 in conference play. The Golden Knights are in a tie for fifth
in the ECAC with Princeton. Clarkson trails fourth-place Quinnipiac
by one point, but only leads seventh-place Rensselaer by one point.
The Golden Knights have not lost a game since Jan. 15 and are 4-0-2
in their last six games.
Last weekend, the team tied both of its games, and became the first team in the ECAC to gain a point against Cornell this season. Cornell and Clarkson tied, 3-3, on Feb 4 at Clarkson. On Feb. 5, Colgate and the Golden Knights tied, 2-2.
Senior Melissa Waldie leads the team in scoring with 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists. Freshman Jamie-Lee Rattray is second with 17 points on four goals and 13 assists. Junior Juana Baribeau is third on the team with six goals and 10 assists for 16 points.
Freshman Erica Howe and senior Lauren Dahm have split time in
net this season. Howe has started 15 games, while Dahm has started
14. Howe has 392 saves, a .927 save percentage, a 1.87 goals
against average, a 7-4-4 record and one shutout. Dahm has 382
saves, a .918 save percentage, a 2.63 goals against average, a
4-9-1 record and one shutout.
SERIES HISTORY
The contest will be the 18th time the two teams have met on the
ice. Dartmouth leads the all-time series, 9-5-3. The first meeting
between the two schools took place on February 10, 1979. The Golden
Knights won the contest, 3-2, in overtime at Thompson Arena.
Clarkson won at Dartmouth earlier this season, 3-2, in
overtime.
