Frozen Fenway: Dartmouth to Play Providence on January 10

BOSTON, MASS. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team will be making a trip to Boston in January to do what few teams have done, play hockey at Fenway Park. The City of Boston, the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Sports Management (FSM) announced Friday that Providence will host Dartmouth on Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. as part of their Sun Life Frozen Fenway 2012.

"The team is very excited about getting to play at Fenway," Dartmouth Head Coach Mark Hudak said. "It should be a great experience for the team and for Providence, and for everyone else that is going to be there. It is going to be a great event all around."

The Dartmouth-Providence game will be the only women's college hockey game played there this season and one of six college contests. Their game on the 10th will be the only contest played that day, and tickets are available by phone at 877-REDSOX9 or online at redsox.com/frozenfenway.

The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 31 at Providence. The Friars are currently 7-8-3 overall and 5-3-1 in Hockey East. Dartmouth and Providence played last season at Thompson Arena with the Big Green earning a 3-2 victory.

Along with the excitement of the opportunity to play at Fenway, the Big Green are preparing for the challenges and differences that go along with playing a game outdoors and on this type of stage.

"There are going to be a lot of differences, but both teams have to deal with that. It's not that its going to be an uneven playing field," Hudak said. "Hopefully, there will be some ice on Occom Pond by then, so we can get outside and practice a little bit."

Dartmouth enters the month of December 5-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in ECAC Hockey. The Big Green play only one game this month at New Hampshire on December 11 at 2 p.m. With the contest being moved to January, the schedule for the team tightens up a little in the new year. Dartmouth hosts Vermont on Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. before heading to Quinnipiac on Jan. 6 and Princeton on Jan. 7. Following the game at Fenway on Jan. 10, Dartmouth hosts RPI on Jan. 13 and Union on Jan. 14. In all, the team will play six games in the span of 12 days.
