Team Notes: Dartmouth Travels to Vermont

HANOVER, N.H. — At UNH on Dec. 11, the Wildcats earned a 1-0 victory over Dartmouth. It appeared the game might head into overtime tied, 0-0, but New Hampshire scored the deciding goal with just over six minutes remaining in the third period.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth started the season winning six of seven, but have struggled of late. The squad has a 6-5-0 record overall and a 5-3-0 mark in the ECAC. The Big Green are tied for third in the conference with 10 points. Cornell leads the league with 16 points.

Multiple skaters have tallied points for Dartmouth, with sophomore Sasha Nanji leading the way. Nanji leads the team with 13 points on eight goals and five assists. Sophomore Camille Dumais is second on the team in points with 11. She has three goals and eight assists. Senior Amanda Trunzo is third in points with 10 on six goals and four assists. Junior Kelly Foley has five goals and three assists for eight points. Sophomore Sally Komarek is second on the team in assists with six. She also has a goal for seven total points. Lauren Kelly leads the freshman class with six points on one goal and five assists. Junior Reagan Fischer also has six points on two goals and four assists. Overall, the squad has had 14 players who have recorded a point, and had 10 players record a goal and an assist.

In net, freshman Lindsay Holdcroft has seen a majority of the action, starting seven games. She has played 421:04 minutes, made 119 saves, has a 2.85 goals against average, a 4-3-0 record and a .856 save percentage. Sophomore Whitney Woodcox has started four games, totaling 238:59 minutes. She has made 64 saves, has a 2.51 goals against average, a 2-2-0 record and a .865 save percentage.

The team is averaging 2.91 goals per game, while giving up 2.82 goals per game. The offense has been aggressive, taking 30.5 shots per game. On the power play, the Big Green have scored goals on 10 of their 56 chances or 17.7 percent of the time. On the penalty kill, Dartmouth has allowed goals five out of the 40 chances.

NATIONAL LEADER
Defenseman Sasha Nanji is a main reason why the Big Green have won six games this season, and the numbers she is putting up are some of the best in the country. The sophomore leads the nation in points per game by a defenseman. She is averaging 1.18 points per game on eight goals and five assists in 11 contests. The next closest skater is Cornell's Laura Fortino who is averaging 1.07 points per game.

CONFERENCE LEADERS
Through eight games of its conference season, the Dartmouth team has a variety of skaters near the top of the league statistical leaders. Sasha Nanji is representing the Big Green the most. The sophomore is second in the conference in goals with seven, second in points with 11 and leads the league in defensive scoring (11 points). In assists, Camille Dumais is in a three-way tie for second with six. 

OUTSIDE THE ECAC
Dartmouth is 1-2 outside of the conference on the season. The team defeated Providence at home, but lost at Boston College and New Hampshire. All of the Big Green's non-conference games are against Hockey East teams this season. The team wraps up non-conference play when it hosts Connecticut for two games on the weekend.

EXTENDED BREAK
The Big Green have had a long stretch without competitive games, since the loss at UNH. Dartmouth played at the Wildcats on Dec. 11 and have gone 17 days without playing a game. It is the longest stretch of the season in which the squad goes without playing a contest. Starting with the game against Vermont, the Big Green will play three games in five days.

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Vermont enters the game against the Big Green with a 2-8-8 record overall and a 1-6-4 mark in Hockey East play. The Catamounts won their last game, 4-3, when they hosted Maine on Dec. 3. It was the first win for Vermont since they defeated Yale on Oct. 22. The squad has also seen nine of its games this season go to overtime.

Two players are tied for the team lead in points with seven. Sophomore Erin Wente has scored five goals and recorded two assists and senior Celeste Doucet has three goals and four assists. Two more skaters are tied for third on the team with six points. Senior Saleah Morrison has two goals and four assists, and junior Kailey Nash has one goal and five assists. Nash's five assists lead the team. Every player that has played minutes for Vermont, except the goaltenders, have scored at least one point.

In net, freshman Roxanne Douville has seen a majority of the action, starting 13 games. She has a 2-5-6 record, made 368 saves, played 809:59 minutes, has a .932 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average. Sophomore Kelci Lanthier has started five games and has a 2.52 goals against average.

The Catamounts are averaging 1.33 goals per game, but give up 2.28 goals against. The squad is only averaging 23.7 shots per game, while giving up 31.3. Vermont has only converted nine of its 88 power play chances (10.2 percent) and has killed the power play 58 of 69 times (84.1 percent).

SERIES HISTORY
The meeting between the Catamounts and the Big Green will be the 37th meeting between the two schools. Dartmouth has dominated the series with a 33-3-0 mark, including victories in the last 31 games. The two teams first met on February 14, 1978 with Vermont winning 4-3 at Thompson Arena. The Catamounts won three of the first five, but have not won in the series since 1981.
