Parsons Awarded Archibald Prize at Celebration of Excellence
HANOVER, NH - The Dartmouth College Department
of Athletics honored 11 student-athletes this evening at the annual
Celebration of Athletic Excellence, highlighted by the presentation
of the Kenneth Archibald Prize to senior women’s hockey
captain Sarah Parsons (Dover,
Mass.).
Dartmouth’s highest athletic honor, the Kenneth Archibald
Prize is presented annually to “the member of the graduating
class who has been four years in attendance, who has been the best
all-around athlete, regard also being had to moral worth and high
standing in scholarship.” The winner traditionally
exemplifies all that we hope and expect of the men and women who
put on the Dartmouth uniform and take to the field of play. This
student-athlete is to be of exemplary athletic skill, of great
academic prowess and of high moral character.
During her four-year career, Parsons and her team has won two ECAC
Hockey Tournament titles, an Ivy League title and an ECAC Hockey
regular-season championship, as well as three NCAA Tournament
appearances. She has also racked up personal awards in her career.
Parsons was an ECAC Hockey and Ivy League Rookie of the Year after
50 points as a freshman, and led the Big Green to the 2009 ECAC
Hockey Tournament title earning Most Outstanding Player honors.
This season, she was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier
Award, given to the top women’s college hockey player, and
she was the leading scorer in ECAC Hockey with 40 points on 20
goals and 20 assists. She is a two-time Academic All-Ivy selection,
a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team member, and is a fixture
in the community here at Dartmouth as well as in and around
Boston.
Women’s Hockey head coach Mark
Hudak said of Parsons, “She is one of the best
athletes I have ever worked with in terms of overall athletic
ability.”
Parsons concluded her career with 156 total points, which places her eighth all-time. The 66 goals she scored in her career made the top-10, while her 90 helpers are tied with Carly Haggard ’03 for seventh all-time.
