Parsons Earns Academic All-District Second-Team Honors
HANOVER, NH - Senior captain Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) added another
postseason award to her resume as she was named to the ESPN the
Magazine Academic All-District Second Team on Thursday.
Parsons, who is also a two-time Academic All-Ivy recipient, earned
a spot on the second team for the first time in her career. The
economics major is set to graduate this coming June and will do so
as one of the best student-athletes to ever put on a Dartmouth
uniform.
In order to be nominated, athletes must be a starter or an
important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point
average on a 4.0 scale. The selected student-athlete must have
participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games and
must have been enrolled for an entire calender year. The list of
nominees consisted of over 85 women student-athletes from different
sports around the region, excluding basketball, soccer, softball
and track and field, as each of those sports have their own
academic selections.
Parsons was a solid player at both ends of the ice for the Big
Green during her four seasons in Hanover. She not only led
Dartmouth in all offensive categories with 20 goals and 20 assists
for 40 points, but was a great defensive player during her career
as she was named a finalist for the best defensive forward in ECAC
Hockey. Parsons became a force on the national stage as well and
was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, given to the
women’s college hockey player of the year.
She was named first team All-Ivy and ECAC Hockey Second Team. She
finished the season leading ECAC Hockey with those 40 points and
eighth in the nation in points per game (1.43). When her season
ended she ranked fourth in the nation in assists per game (0.71),
seventh in goals per game (0.71) and 13th in goals (20). She
concluded the year ranked second in ECAC Hockey with 20 assists and
fourth in power-play goals (6), while posting 13 multi-point
games.
Parsons finished her career with 156 total points, which places
her eighth all-time. The 66 goals she scored in her career made the
top-10, while her 90 helpers are tied with Carly Haggard ’03
for seventh all-time.
