After Cherie Piper got cut from Canada's 2009 World Championship team, she swore she would never be left off a team again. She lived out that promise to herself on Monday.

The 28-year-old from Scarborough has already been to two Olympic Games, winning gold in both 2002 and 2006. But since the Turin Games, she suffered the death of her father and fell to a serious knee injury. These factors sidetracked her training.
