Parsons Selected to U.S. National Team
HANOVER, N.H. -- Sophomore Sarah
Parsons (Dover, Mass.) was selected to the U.S. National Team that
will be competing in the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation
World Women's Championship from April 4-12, in Harbin, China.
The roster includes seven Olympians, 13 returnees from the 2007
U.S. Women's National Team and seven newcomers to
world-championship competition.
"We are excited about the potential of the team," said Jackie
Barto, head coach of the 2008 U.S. Women's National Team and also
the head women's ice hockey coach at The Ohio State University.
"This team combines experience with youthful enthusiasm and we feel
like we've got the right mix headed into the world
championship."
Parsons is one of the seven Olympians on the roster and she is
returning to the team following her stint with the squad a year ago
at the IIHF World Championships.
She skated in 31 games this season and was third on the Big Green
with 34 points, including a career-high 15 goals. Parsons finished
the season on a 12-game point streak, in which she tallied 18
points with 10 goals and 18 helpers. This will be the second event
for Parsons with the U.S. National Team this season as she went to
the Four Nations Cup in Leksand, Sweden, at the beginning of
November. She helped lead Team USA to the silver medal with two
goals during the tournament.
Team USA will open competition in the 2008 IIHF World Women's
Championship on Friday, April 4, against Germany.
