Parsons, Team USA Win Gold
HANOVER, N.H. -- Junior Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) and U.S.
Women’s Select Team won the 2008 Four Nations Cup over Canada
in a shootout, 3-2, at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y., on
Sunday evening.
Team USA finished the tournament with a 2-1-0-1 record
(W-OTW-OTL-L) to capture its third Four Nations Cup title in the
history of the event (first since 2003). This came after the United
States won gold by beating Canada earlier this year at the
International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships.
“It was an awesome hockey game,” said Katey Stone,
head coach for Team USA and also the head women’s ice hockey
coach at Harvard University. “Both teams and both goaltenders
played great - there was a small margin between the two teams today
and we’re extremely happy that we came out on top.”
Parsons appeared in all five games for the United States, while
former Big Green standout Gillian Apps ’06 was a member of
Team Canada and posted an assist in the five games. Parsons was
also the lone ECAC Hockey representative on Team USA. On
Canada’s roster, the league had two members as
Harvard’s Sarah Vaillancourt and Cornell’s Rebecca
Johnston.
