Ithaca Female Athlete of Year: Rebecca Johnston

After 4 1/2 grueling months training with Canada's centralized women's hockey team in preparation for the Olympics in Vancouver, Rebecca Johnston was about to learn just how merry her Christmas was going to be in 2009.
One by one, players were called into a meeting with the coaches, delivered the news on whether they made the team, then left for home without seeing other players. There was no way to anticipate the verdict.
"I was really nervous. My heart was pounding. I went to sit down at the table, and the coaches' faces were so serious, I thought, 'Oh my God, I must be cut,' " Johnston said.
