Johnston Relishes Golden Memories

ITHACA -- She got off the ice with about 10 seconds left, totally exhausted. The buzzer sounded. Pandemonium. Off came the gloves and helmet. The loudest cheers and happiest tears she has heard or seen ensued.
A dream
since she started playing hockey at the age of 4 -- mostly against
boys -- was attained when a 1.2-pound gold medal was draped around
her neck. The initial feeling was shock.
She had no idea where her family was sitting. But she managed to spot them out of the 20,000 red-and-white-clad fans at the Canada Hockey Place in Vancouver. Her mom was crying. She held the medal up for everyone to see.
