The following article appeared November 18 on the Cornell Web site.
The Big Red embarks on its final roadtrip of the semester as it
heads to Princeton and Quinnipiac this weekend. Cornell will face
Princeton on Friday in a 7 p.m. contest before traveling to
Quinnipiac for a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
ABOUT THE BIG RED
Cornell split its two games last weekend, blanking #2 Clarkson,
2-0, before dropping a close 3-2 loss to perennial ECAC Hockey
heavyweight St. Lawrence. The loss to the Saints broke a five-game
winning streak for the Big Red, but the strength of the win over
Clarkson kept the Big Red ranked in both national polls, including
moving up three spots to seventh in the USA Today poll. Sophomore
Catherine White leads the team in scoring with a total of 10
points, scoring three points last weekend on two goals and an
assist. The defense has remained solid, allowing only 15 goals to
rank seventh in the nation in scoring defense and anchoring the
top-ranked penalty kill in the nation.Goaltender Amanda Mazzota
continues to impress, earning a shutout in her past three Friday
night games, giving her a career total of 5 shutouts. Mazzotta has
a .918 save percentage and a 1.76 goals-against average through the
first eight games of the season.
HEAD COACH DOUG DERRAUGH
In his fifth season behind the Big Red bench, Doug Derraugh has
turned the Cornell women’s hockey program into one of
women’s college hockey’s top young programs. Derraugh
has a career record of 42-75-9, but has taken the Big Red to a
back-to-back double-digit wins in each of the last two seasons, the
first time the Big Red has done that since the 1999-2000 and
2000-01 seasons. He has also led Cornell to the ECAC Hockey
playoffs in each of the last two years. Derraugh is assisted by
Danielle Biloudeau, in her fourth season, and Edith Zimmering, in
her first year with the Big Red.
