Big Red Contingent Invited to Canada Under-22 Camp

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Four members of the Cornell women's hockey team have been selected to participate in the U22 Canadian National Team Camp, which will run from Aug. 6-14 in Calgary, Alberta. Sophomores Catherine White and Chelsea Karpenko will be joined by incoming freshmen Lauriane Rougeau and Laura Fortino for the week-long camp.

The quartet will be among 42 players vying for a spot on the roster for Team Canada at the 2010 MLP Cup in Ravensburg, Germany, in January 2010. Additionally, the U22 team will play a three-game series against the Canadian National Team in Calgary in mid-August as the senior team, which includes Cornellians Rebecca Johnston and Brianne Jenner, continues its preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Karpenko and Rougeau were teammates last year on Canada's U22 team, while Fortino was a member of the U18 team last season.

The camp will include the U22 team from Sweden, while the 42 Canadian players have been split into White and Red teams. Rougeau and White will play on the Red team, while Karpenko and Fortino have been assigned to the White team. The three teams will play seven games, with both the Red and White teams playing five games each and Sweden playing four.
