Johnston Claims Silver Medal at Worlds

HAMEENLINNA, Finland — Big Red sophomore Rebecca Johnston helped Team Canada to bring home a silver medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Championships. Canada finished the week with a 4-1 record, losing only to the United States in the gold medal game, 4-1. Johnston notched two goals and two assists in the five games.

Johnston opened the championships with a goal and an assist in Canada’s 13-1 win over China in the preliminary round. The Sudbury, Ontario native followed with another goal and an assist in a 7-0 victory over Sweden.

Canada defeated Finland, 8-0, and topped Team USA, 2-1, in the playoff rounds. The USA bounced back in the gold medal game to win its second-straight championship.

Johnston also played on the 2008 Canadian team that captured the silver medal.
