ABOUT THE BIG RED
After a pair of wins on the road over ECAC Hockey opponents Union
and Rensselaer, Cornell moved up the USCHO.com poll to its current
ranking of #7 in the nation and broke into the USA Hockey/USA Today
poll at number 10. Cornell ranks among the top teams in the nation
in scoring offense (2.67 per game, 13th) and in scoring defense
(2.00, 8th). The Big Red blanked Union on Friday night in a 4-0 win
with a pair of goals from Laura Danforth and skated away with a 3-1
victory over Rensselaer on Saturday after scoring a goal each
period of play. The second straight four-point weekend increased
Cornell’s record to 4-2-0 going into this tough weekend
series against perennial powerhouses Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
Catherine White leads the team offensively with one goal and six
assists for seven points in six games, while Chelsea Karpenko has a
team-best three goals. In goal, Amanda Mazzotta has a sparkling
1.85 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage with a pair
of shutouts.
HEAD COACH DOUG DERRAUGH
In his fifth season behind the Big Red bench, Doug Derraugh has
turned the Cornell women’s hockey program into one of
women’s college hockey’s top young programs. Derraugh
has a career record of 41-74-9, but has taken the Big Red to a
back-to-back double-digit wins in each of the last two seasons, the
first time the Big Red has done that since the 1999-2000 and
2000-01 seasons. He has also led Cornell to the ECAC Hockey
playoffs in each of the last two years. Derraugh is assisted by
Danielle Biloudeau, in her fourth season, and Edith Zimmering, in
her first year with the Big Red.
