Canada Under-22 Camp Features White
Cornell freshman forward Catherine White, the 2009 ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year, was among nine League standouts who recently were competed at Hockey Canada's Under-22 strength and conditioning/skating camp, held April 30 to May 3 at Norma Bush Arena in Calgary. A total of 47 players participated at the camp.
White, who was awarded the Cornell University Class of 1941
Rookie of the Year award, was second in scoring for the Big Red
with 44 points on 18 goals and 26 assists. The center’s 44
points is the most of any Cornell freshman since the 1979-80
season, when Digit Degido notched 53. White ranks fourth nationally
among rookies in points per game with 1.42 which is also good for
18th overall. With 26 helpers, she also ranks 15th in assists per
game. White had 12 multi-point contests and led the league in
scoring by freshmen.
The camp roster included 12 players from Canada’s silver
medal-winning National Women’s Under-22 Team at the 2009 MLP
Cup in Ravensburg, Germany and 10 players who won a silver medal
with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team at the
2009 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship in Füssen,
Germany.

The 47 players were put through fitness testing and skating
drills over the course of the four-day camp. Hockey Canada also
used the camp as an opportunity to get to know the players and give
them off-ice training techniques, as well as proper nutritional
guidance. Using the 2008-09 on-ice evaluation and performance at
this camp, Hockey Canada officials will make their selections for
an August under-22 camp, which will lead to selections for the
National Women’s Under-22 Team for the 2009-10 season.
Following the strength and conditioning camp, Team Canada will
have its selection camp on Aug. 7-16 in Calgary in preparation for
the MLP Cup in Germany on Jan. 3-10.
