Team Notes: Colgate Hosts Lindenwood in Home Opening Weekend

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate women's hockey team will look for its first win of the season this weekend when it hosts Lindenwood in a two-game set on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15 both at 3 p.m. in Starr Rink.

This will be the first meeting in program history between the two teams.

The Raiders are coming off a pair of setbacks to New Hampshire and Northeastern last weekend on the road. The team first fell to the Wildcats 3-0 on Friday night before suffering a 5-0 loss to the Huskies on Saturday.

SASS HAS PHENOMENAL START

Senior goaltender Kimberly Sass had an impressive start to the season with a total of 64 saves in the two games. Sass first had 26 saves against New Hampshire before recording 38 stops against Northeastern. Both were game-highs.

SCOUTING LINDENWOOD

The Lions, who are in their first season as an NCAA team, are currently on a six-game losing streak, having dropped three two-game sets. The team was first shutout twice by No. 1 Wisconsin in its opening weekend before falling twice to Minnesota State and Robert Morris.

Lindenwood, which spent the last eight years playing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), is led by freshmen Allison Wickenheiser and Kendra Broad, as well as sophomore Katie Erickson. All three of the forwards have three points each. Wickenheiser has a team-high two goals and one assist, while Broad has one goal and two assists and Erickson has a team-best three assists. In goal, the team is led by freshman Taylor Fairchild. The goaltender has started in all six games this season and has a total of 287 saves for a .854 save percentage.

ECAC HOCKEY PRESEASON POLL

The Colgate women's ice hockey team was picked to finish ninth in the 2011-12 ECAC Hockey Preseason Poll that was released on Sept. 15. The Raiders received 41 points for ninth place above Yale, Brown and Union. Two-time defending regular-season and tournament champion Cornell sits at the top of the poll with 121 votes and 11 first-place votes.
