Team Notes: Raiders Travel to Niagara

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate women's hockey team will play its second two-game set of the season this weekend when it travels to Niagara for a pair of matchups on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 both at 2 p.m.
 
The Raiders are coming off a 1-1 double overtime tie with Brown and a 4-0 shutout win over Yale last weekend to improve its ECAC Hockey record to 1-1-1. Freshman Miriam Drubel led the team in scoring with the game-tying goal against the Bears and the second goal in its win over the Bulldogs, while sophomores Jocelyn Simpson and Taylor Volpe as well as freshman Melissa Kueber scored one goal apiece against Yale.

SCORING LEADERS
Junior Brittany Phillips continues to lead Colgate (4-3-1, 1-1-1 ECAC Hockey) with 14 points from five goals and nine assists. The forward, who is ranked 14th in program history with 67 career points, is sixth in the nation in power play goals (3), 13th in assists per game (1.12) and 14th in points per game (1.75). She is also third in the league in points, and is tied for second in assists and power play goals. Phillips is followed by Melissa Kueber who has 10 points from seven goals and three assists. She is 18th in the nation in goals per game and sixth in points per game for a rookie, and is second in the league in goals. Following Phillips and Kueber is Jocelyn Simpson who has two goals and seven assists for nine points.

DYNAMIC DUO
Phillips and Kueber have made a significant contribution to the team's offense this season. Combined they have recorded a total of 24 points, scoring 12 of Colgate's 25 goals and 12 of its 47 assists. Their most impressive performance this season was in the team's wins over Lindenwood on Oct. 14 and 15, when they collected a total of 16 points in the two games. Together they have recorded at least one point in each of the last six games.

RAIDERS ON THE ROAD
Colgate has a 1-2 mark on the road this season, with its only win coming over Syracuse 3-1 on Oct. 19. The team will look for a pair of wins against the Purple Eagles to improve its away record.
 
SERIES
This will be the 19th meeting between the two teams, with Colgate owning a 10-7-1 winning record since they first met in the 1999-00 season. The Raiders went 1-1 in the two-game set against Niagara in the 2010-11 season, dropping the first matchup 2-1 and then winning the second one 4-1 on Nov. 13, 2010.
 
SCOUTING NIAGARA
The Purple Eagles (4-5-2, 0-0 CHA) are coming off a pair of double overtime ties against Vermont last weekend. The team has wins over Yale, Princeton and twice over RPI. Its five losses this season were to New Hampshire and No. 4 Boston University twice each, as well as St. Lawrence.
 
Niagara is led by junior Kelsey Welch, sophomore Jessica Hitchcock, and junior Jenna Hendrikx. Welch has a team-high 12 points from six goals and six assists while Hitchcock has 11 points from six goals and five assists, and Hendrikx has five goals and five assists for 10 points. Leading the way in net is Sarah Moses who has played in seven games and has a total of 153 saves for a .845 save percentage.
