Raider Chat with Brittany Phillips

Colgate junior Brittany Phillips was able to take time from her busy summer plans and training schedule to answer a series of questions that would help fans and the Colgate family know more about her off the ice.

Last season Phillips played in all 33 games and led the team in scoring, points and assists with a total of 33 points from 15 goals and 18 assists. She is currently ranked sixth in program history for points in a season, tied at ninth for goals in a season and is tied at 20th for points in a career (53).

On what made her choose to play ice hockey and when she started playing
… "Growing up in a rural place, it is just part of the way of life to play hockey but I think I started because my cousins and my older brother played and I wanted to be just like them. I started playing in grade one. I remember wanting to play before then but I was not a good enough skater to play then.”

On what sport she would play if she was not playing ice hockey … "Well I played competitive softball for years, so probably that. But one sport I would really like to try is Bossaball."

For those of you who may not know, Bossaball is a ball game between two teams, combining elements of volleyball, football, gymnastics and capoeira. It is played on an inflatable court featuring a trampoline on each side of the net.

On what she did this summer … “I have been training as well as working for the town I live near. I cut the nicest grass you ever will see.”

On what people would be surprised to know about her
… “People will be surprised to know that I love to collect free t-shirts that are given out around the Colgate campus. I am always scouring for giveaways.”

On who she thought was the funniest person on her team … "The funniest person would have to be a former player, Lisa Plenderlieth '11 (commonly known as Plender). There will never be another Lisa ever. Whether that is a good or a bad thing is still up in the air.”

On if she could star in any reality TV show, which one it would be … “I would want to star in Storage Wars. Those guys find the wildest things in the abandoned storage units.”

Storage Wars is an A&E real-life series that follows four professional buyers and their teams as they scour repossessed storage units in search of hidden treasure. Part gamblers, part detectives, these seasoned veterans have found everything from coffins to the world's most valuable comic book collection, paying as little as ten dollars for items valued in the millions.

On who her all-time Colgate athlete was (past or present) … "Paul Mancuso '10 (former Colgate football player)."
