Team Notes: Raiders Face Syracuse in Final Non-Conference Matchup
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate women's
ice hockey team will travel to Syracuse on Tuesday, Jan. 4 for its
final non-conference matchup of the season. This will be the second
meeting between the two teams this season with the Orange winning
the first game 4-3.
The Raiders are coming off a 5-3 setback to St. Lawrence and a 5-2
win over Clarkson at the beginning of the month.
Freshman Rachel
Walsh scored two goals, including the
game-winner, against the Golden Knights and one against the Saints
for Colgate (6-12, 3-5 ECAC) while sophomore Jenna
Klynstra had a total of one goal and four
assists in the two games.
POINT LEADERS
Sophomore Brittany
Phillips and Klynstra continue to lead the
Raiders, contributing just under a third of the team's points (31).
Phillips has a team-high 17 points off seven goals and 10 assists
while Klynstra has seven goals and seven assists for 14
points.
FRESHMAN CONTRIBUTION
The freshman class has played a substantial role in the Colgate's
offense this season. As a class, the rookies have contributed 12 of
the team's 35 goals and 13 of its 62 assists. Jocelyn
Simpson leads her class with eight points
off four goals and four assists. She is followed by Walsh who now
has seven points from six goals and one assist.
THE SERIES
The Raiders leads the all-time series with Syracuse, 3-1. Colgate
won the first three meetings, with their only loss coming earlier
in the season when it fell to the Orange 4-3 at Starr Rink on Nov.
23.
SCOUTING SYRACUSE
The Orange (8-7-2, 2-0-0 CHA) is coming off a two-game set with
Princeton. The Tigers swept the weekend, defeating Syracuse 4-2 in
the first game before shutting the Orange out 5-0 in the next game.
In addition to Colgate, the team also has wins over New Hampshire,
UConn, Clarkson and twice over Wayne State and Union this
season.
Syracuse is led by sophomore Isabel Menard who has 28 points off
11 goals and 17 assists. She is followed by senior Julie Rising who
has 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points and by junior Megan
Skelly who has 15 points from six goals and nine assists.
