Team Notes: Colgate Travels to No. 3 Mercyhurst
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate
women’s ice hockey team will travel to Erie, Pa. this weekend
to face No. 3 Mercyhurst on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. This will
be the Raiders' final non-conference matchup on the road.
Colgate (5-10, 2-4 ECAC) is coming off a 4-3 setback to Syracuse
on Tuesday night. Sophomore Brittany Phillips (Lauder,
Man.) had an impressive three-point performance with
two goals and one assist while junior Amanda Kirwan
(Mississauga, Ont.) had one goal and one assist.
FANTASTIC FOUR
Phillips continues to lead the Raiders with 12 points off six
goals and six assists. She is followed by
classmates Jenna Klynstra (Edmonton,
Alta.) and Jordan Brickner (Lake Forest,
Ill.) as well as by
Kirwan. Klynstra has nine points from six
goals and three assists, while Brickner and Kirwan have one goal
and six assists apiece.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
Colgate has a variety of players contributing to scoring
this season. Eleven players have scored at least one goal for the
Raiders with four having three or more goals. The team also has 12
players with at least one point.
THE SERIES
Mercyhurst leads the all-time series with the Raiders 14-2-2.
Colgate’s only wins since the teams first met in 2001-02 were
a 3-0 shutout win in 2004-05 and most recently a 4-3 win in
2008-09. The only two overtime ties were both in the 2005-06
season; 2-2 and 1-1.
SCOUTING THE LAKERS
Mercyhurst (9-2, 3-0 CHA) is coming off two wins in a two-game set
with Wayne State last weekend. The team defeated the Warriors 7-1
in the first game and 5-2 in the second game. The Lakers have had
wins over St. Cloud State, Maine, Bemidji State, Robert Morris and
Cornell. Their only two losses were to Bemidji State in the second
game of a two-game set and to Niagara.
The team is led by Meghan Agosta and Vicki Bendus. Agosta leads
the team in points with 25 off a team-high 13 goals and 12 assists
while Bendus, who leads the team in assists, has eight goals and 14
assists.
TOUGH BEGINNINGS
The Raiders played four of their first ten games against ranked
opponents, beginning with No. 9 Boston College followed by No. 8
New Hampshire in the team’s opening weekend. They then played
No. 10 Providence and No. 10 Harvard. The team will look to improve
its 1-3 record against ranked opponents this weekend when it takes
on No. 3. Mercyhurst.
