Team Notes: Raiders Take to Ice

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate women’s ice hockey team will play its first exhibition game of the season this Saturday when it hosts the Bluewater Hawks at Starr Rink. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

The Raiders, who were picked to finish ninth in ECAC Hockey in the Preseason Poll, completed their 2009-10 season with an overall record of 12-20-4 and finished eighth with a 8-10-4 mark in conference play. The team’s season ended in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals to the eventual national runner-up Cornell.

Colgate returns two of its top-five point scorers from last season. Sophomore forwardBrittany Phillips (Lauder, Man.) had 20 points off 11 goals and nine assists, and junior forward Jessi Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.) finished with 16 points off two goals and 14 assists. 

The Raiders also return two veteran goaltenders in senior Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) and junior Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.). Plenderleith led the team in wins last season with 10, while Sass was named the ECAC Goaltender of the Year in 2008-09.

Colgate will host the Ottawa Jr. Senators on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. in its final exhibition game of the season, before it opens the 2010-11 season at home against Boston College on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
