Team Notes: Raiders Set for Pair at Niagara

Colgate will wrap up their non-league schedule with a pair of road games against Niagara of the College Hockey America conference. The Raiders, now 5-12-3 overall, will face the Purple Eagles on Friday, Jan. 8 and Saturday Jan. 9 at the Dwyer Arena in Niagara Falls, N.Y. Both games are slated for 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Niagara – The Purple Eagles currently sport an overall record of 7-7-4 and a conference mark of 3-3-2 in the CHA. Niagara split their last two weekend series’ earning both a win and a loss against ECAC opponent Cornell and fellow CHA opponent Wayne State. The Purple Eagles fell to Cornell, 2-1, on Nov. 28, but defeated the Big Red the following day by the same score, 2-1. Niagara then defeated top conference opponent Wayne State, 2-1, on Dec. 12 before falling to the Warriors, 3-1, on Dec. 13. Jenna Hendrix leads the Purple Eagles in scoring with 14 points off of a team-high nine goals along as well as five assists. Jennifer MacLean leads the team in assists with eight and is second in overall points with 13. Goaltender Jenni Bauer is 7-7-4 in net with a 2.07 goals against average and .918 save percentage. Head coach Chris MacKenzie is in his first season at the helm of the Niagara women’s hockey program, and is the second head coach in the history of the program.

LAST TIME OUT
Rookie Brittany Phillips (Lauder, Man.) scored the game-winning goal with just 10.2 seconds left in overtime to give the Raiders a 5-4 victory against 10th-ranked Syracuse on Saturday, Jan. 2 at the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y. Colgate fought back from a 4-1 deficit after the first period to remain undefeated in its all-time series against the Orange. Phillips added three more points on top of the game-winner, including the Raiders first goal of the game and two assists, one on the game-tying goal. Seniors Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Marissa Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.) and Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) added one goal apiece, while sophomore goalie Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) made a game-high 32 saves for the Raiders.
