Team Notes: Raiders Host Dartmouth and No. 10 Harvard
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate
women’s ice hockey team will host Dartmouth and 10th-ranked
Harvard this weekend in the team’s third and fourth ECAC
Hockey games of the season. The Raiders (3-5, 1-1) will first play
the Big Green on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. followed by the Crimson
on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m., both at Starr Rink.
Harvard will be the fourth ranked opponent that Colgate has faced
this season.
The Raiders are coming off a split weekend on the road with a loss
against Princeton on Friday and a 2-1 overtime win over Quinnipiac
on Saturday. Sophomore Jenna Klynstra (Edmonton,
Alta.)scored both goals for the Raiders in the victory
over the Bobcats.
LUCKY NUMBER FOUR
Five players on the team have four points this season. Klynstra
leads the team with four goals and is joined by
classmate Brittany Phillips (Lauder, Man.),
who has two goals and two assists. Freshman Jocelyn
Simpson (Shorewood, Ill.) has one goal and three
assists, while sophomore Jordan Brickner (Lake Forest,
Ill.) and junior Amanda Kirwan
(Mississauga, Ont.) both have four assists
apiece.
OVERTIME MANIA
Colgate has ended three of its first eight games in overtime. This
is the most overtime games the Raiders have played in the beginning
of a season since 2005-06, when Colgate ended its first three games
of the season in the extra period. The team now has a 2-1 record in
the additional five minutes, with overtime wins against Quinnipiac
and No. 8 New Hampshire and a loss to No. 10 Providence.
THE SERIES
Dartmouth leads the all-time series with Colgate 23-5-2. The
Raiders’ most memorable win came in the first game of the
ECAC quarterfinals during the 2008-09 season, when the team
defeated the Big Green 7-6 in overtime. Friday’s game will
mark the 31st meeting between the two teams since they first met in
2001-02. Colgate won the last matchup 6-4 on Jan. 15, 2010.
The Crimson own a 15-1-2 record with Colgate. The Raiders’
only victory was in 2006-07 when the team defeated Harvard 3-1 en
route to reaching the semifinals of the ECAC Hockey tournament for
the second time in school history and the first time in the
team’s history as a Division I program. The Crimson won the
last meeting 5-1.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green (2-0, 2-0) is on a two-game winning streak, with 4-1
wins over Brown and Yale last weekend. The team will play Colgate
on Friday before playing Cornell on Saturday.
Dartmouth, which was picked to finish eighth in the preseason
poll, is led by sophomore forwards Sally Komarek and Camille
Dumais. Komarek leads the team in points with four assists while
Dumais has three points off a goal and two assists.
SCOUTING NO. 10 HARVARD
The Crimson (1-0-1, 1-0-1) is coming off a 3-3 overtime tie with
Yale and a 4-2 win over Brown last weekend. The team, which was
picked to finish third in the preseason poll, will play No. 2
Cornell on Friday before traveling to Starr Rink on Saturday.
Senior forward Liza Ryabkina leads Harvard with three points.
Ryabkina was named the ECAC Hockey MLX Skates Player of the Week
after her three-point performance last weekend. She scored two
goals in a tie with Yale on Friday and then scored her third goal
in a win over Brown on Saturday.
