Colgate Signs Six as Class of 2013
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate University head women's hockey coach
Scott Wiley has announced the signing of six student-athletes to
join the team as the Class of 2013.
Wiley and his staff are bringing in three forwards, two defenders
and one goaltender.
Joining the Raiders are:
Jordan Brickner - 5-8, D, Lake Forest, Ill.
(Connecticut Stars)
Jessica Hootz - 5-9, D, Edmonton, Alta. (Edmonton
Thunder)
Jenna Klynstra - 5-9, F, Edmonton, Alta.
(Edmonton Thunder)
Brittany Phillips - 5-5, F, Lauder, Man. (Westman
Wildcats)
Whitney Routman - 5-8, F, Northbrook, Ill.
(Chicago Mission)
Jocelyn Yokow - 5-4, G, Windsor, Conn.
(Connecticut Polar Bears)
"We are really excited about this incoming class," said Wiley.
"They are talented hockey players and great student-athletes that
should succeed here at Colgate. Assistant coaches Ryan Stone and
Carly McNaughton did a terrific job in selecting a stellar class.
We're looking forward to next season and competing for the ECAC
Hockey title."
Jordan Brickner - 5-8, D, Lake Forest, Ill. (Connecticut
Stars)
Brickner has played four years with the Connecticut Stars of the
Connecticut Hockey Conference. The Stars won the New England
District title and finished third in the USA Hockey National
Championships this past season. Prior to joining the Stars,
Brickner was a member of the Seacoast Spartans and Team
Illinois.
She was also a four-year varsity letter winner at the Hotchkiss
School leading the Bearcats to a New England second-place finish,
as captain her senior year. Brickner also lettered in field hockey,
track, and softball.
Jessica Hootz - 5-9, D, Edmonton, Alta. (Edmonton
Thunder)
Hootz played for the Edmonton Thunder this past year, serving as
the top defenseman. She helped guide the Thunder to first-place in
the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League and second-place in
the Macs Midget Hockey Championships. Hootz was selected to the
Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League All-Star team as a
defender.
She also played for her varsity hockey team at Harry Ainlay
Composite during her senior year, recording two goals and 14
assists in 30 games.
Hootz said, "I chose Colgate because I like the idea of attending
a school with a great academic and athletic reputation while
playing the sport I love. The coaches are awesome, the team was
really welcoming, and both the campus and the community are
beautiful. Colgate felt like a great fit for me."
Jenna Klynstra - 5-9, F, Edmonton, Alta. (Edmonton
Thunder)
Klynstra was a teammate of Jessica Hootz on the Edmonton Thunder
this past year, earning team MVP honors as a forward. She helped
guide the Thunder to first-place in the Alberta Major Midget Female
Hockey League and second-place in the Macs Midget Hockey
Championships. Klynstra was named the Alberta Major Midget Female
Hockey League MVP and the Macs Midget Hockey Finals MVP. Klynstra
also skated for the U-18 Team Alberta for two seasons, serving as
assistant captain in 2009.
Klynstra said, "I choose Colgate because of the great hockey
program, gorgeous campus and the awesome food. The coaching staff
was everything I was looking for and the team was very
inviting."
Brittany Philips - 5-5, F, Lauder, Man. (Westman
Wildcats)
Philips played three seasons for the Westman Wildcats, serving as
the team captain in 2008-09. This past season Philips recorded 79
points in 44 games from 47 goals and 32 assists to help crown the
Wildcats as the Esso Cup National Champions. The Wildcats also won
the Western Regional and the Provincial Championships in
2009. Philips also skated for U-18 Team Canada that played in
Lake Placid in 2008 and won the silver medal in Fussen, Germany in
2009. Philips also attended the 2009 U-22 Team Canada Strength and
Conditioning Camp.
Philips, who was named the 2009 YMCA Woman of Distinction, for
showing community service and serving as a role model, also played
varsity softball, volleyball, badminton and track and field at
Hartney School.
Philips said, "I chose Colgate because it looked like a place to
excel as a student, person and hockey player."
Whitney Routman - 5-8, F, Northbrook, Ill. (Chicago
Mission)
Routman played on the Chicago Mission this past year as a forward.
She helped guide the Mission to a second-place finish at the U-19
National Championships, after winning the state and regional
titles. Routman was named a Midwest Elite Academic all-star in
2008, to the Midwest Elite All-League first team in 2007 and was
captain of the U-16 Team Illinois.
She was also a three-year varsity letter winner at Glenbrook North
in lacrosse finishing her career with 55 goals and 21 assists.
Routman said, "I chose Colgate because of the great academics,
athletics and coaches. Right when I walked on campus the atmosphere
felt right."
Jocelyn Yokow - 5-4, G, Windsor, Conn. (Connecticut Polar
Bears)
Yokow played on the Connecticut Polar Bears this past year as a
goalie. She helped guide the Polar Bears to a silver medal finish
at the USA Hockey U-16 National Championships in both 2007 and
2008. Yokow won the 2006 U-14 USA Hockey/Easton Skills overall
goalie competition. She also attended the 2008 USA Hockey Girls
Select 17 Player Development Camp in Lake Placid.
She was also a four-year varsity letter winner and two-time
captain in hockey at Choate Rosemary Hall.
Yokow said, "I chose Colgate because of its academic reputation,
its impressive campus, the great people I met there, and its
exceptional women's ice hockey program."
