Sass, Stewart Named to ECAC Hockey All-Star Team
ALBANY, N.Y. - Two members of the Colgate women’s ice
hockey program were chosen to represent ECAC Hockey on its All-star
team that will take on the 2010 U.S. Women’s National Team on
Sunday, January 3, at TD Bank Sports Center.
Senior forward Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) and sophomore
goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) will be a part of the
21 student-athletes representing 10 of the 12 ECAC schools. The
match is scheduled as a part of Team USA’s 2009-10 Qwest Tour
and will be held on the campus of Quinnipiac University.
Stewart is among the league’s top four scorers with 19
points this season, off 10 goals and nine assists. Nationally, she
ranks tied for 22nd in overall scoring. Sass is the reigning 2009
ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year as well as a 2009 ECAC First
Team and All-Rookie selection.
Stewart is one of 11 seniors on the team while Sass joins five
other sophomores. Twelve forwards, six defensemen and three
goaltenders make up the All-Star team. Princeton’s head coach
Jeff Kampersal has been named the head coach of the ECAC Hockey
All-Stars with Rensselaer’s head coach John Burke and
Yale’s head coach Hilary Witt serving as assistant
coaches.
Team USA has already defeated the WCHA All-Stars, 6-1, on Sept.
25, North Dakota on Oct. 10 by a score of 11-1, and Hockey East
All-Stars by a count of 4-0 on Nov. 22.
The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Tickets are $10 for
adults, $5 for children, and a $3 group rate for 15-plus. Tickets
