Leene Honored for Academic Prowess
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate senior forward
Kara Leene (Waterbury, Vt.) has been named to the ESPN The
Magazine Academic Second-Team All-District in the women's
at-large category by the College of Sports Information Directors of
American (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday.
Leene has left her mark on the Colgate women's hockey program. A
four-year letterwinner at forward, she played in 117 games and
tallied 20 goals and 16 assists. She is the only player in program
history to have a four-goal game, and has the program's fastest
two, three, and four-goal scoring spans.
A two-year captain, Leene is a three-time AWCHA National
Scholar-Athlete and ECAC Hockey Academic team member.
She has been named to the Dean's List every semester and is a
member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and the Alpha
Kappa Delta International Honor Society. Leene is actively involved
in the Colgate community and is a member of many organizations. She
is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the
Senior Gift Committee, Links and SideKicks.
Leene also has done volunteer work with the Special Olympics and
the Ronald McDonald House, and is a counselor at the Pro Ambitions
Hockey Academy. She was an intern with US Senator Leahy (Vt.) last
summer and interned with the Colgate Admissions office during her
senior year. Leene recently graduated with a degree in
sociology/anthropology and is currently on staff with Senator
Leahy's office.
Colgate had had an impressive number of student-athletes earn
Academic All-District honors this year with eight total.
