Colgate Gets Pink Outside the Rink
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Members of the Colgate University women's
hockey team kept the Coaches vs. Cancer Pink at the Rink campaign
active last week with a visit to Upstate Medical Hospital in
Syracuse, N.Y.
The Raiders visited children in the hematology/oncology wing,
infectious diseases wing and intensive care unit post-op wing.
Wearing their pink jerseys, the players talked with patients and
their parents, gave them pink Coaches vs. Cancer bracelets and
signed team photos of the Raiders in their pink uniforms.
Some children had been anticipating the visit all day. One patient
was even more excited because he had watched the Colgate/Clarkson
game on Time Warner Sports from his hospital bed on Saturday, Feb.
9.
"Our team is so proud to be able to contribute to this benefit
because it allowed us to use the sport that we love for a good
cause," sophomore Nicole McDonald said. "The trip to the hospital
made everything that we did so much more meaningful because we were
able to meet patients that would benefit from our efforts."
"The trip to the hospital added the face of reality to the
fundraising over the past couple of weeks," sophomore Katie Stewart
said. "Seeing what the children at the hospital and their parents
have to go through shows how important cancer research is. I
am really proud of our team and community for their
support with the Pink at the Rink fundraiser."
"The hospital visit was the perfect end to Pink at the Rink,"
sophomore Marissa Dombovy said. "Just seeing the kids smile when we
entered their rooms made it worth it!"
