Team Notes: Clarkson Travels to Central New York
The following article appeared January 27 on the Clarkson Web site.
After suffering consecutive ECAC Hockey losses for the first
time this season, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team
bounced back from the setbacks on the road last week to record its
fourth shutout of the 2008-09 campaign with Saturday’s 3-0
whitewash at Union. The Golden Knights, who dropped a pair of 2-1
games at St. Lawrence last Wednesday and at Rensselaer on Friday,
will look to continue the strong effort they displayed at Union
when they close out a five-game road trip this weekend. Guided by
first-year co-head coaches Shannon and Matt Desrosiers, Clarkson
plays at Central NY foes Colgate and Cornell to close out January.
The Knights battle the Raiders in a 7:00 p.m. game at Starr Rink in
Hamilton Friday night and then face off against the Big Red at
Lynah Rink in Ithaca on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00
p.m.
With nine games remaining in the regular season, Clarkson, led by
senior captain Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT), owns a 13-8-4
overall record and is tied for fifth in the ECAC Hockey standings
with a 7-4-2 league mark.
The Knights saw a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) come to a halt
with the one-goal defeats at St. Lawrence and Rensselaer, but hope
the shutout over Union will be the catalyst for a strong run down
the stretch. Sophomore Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) led the
offense against the Dutchwomen with two goals, including
Clarkson’s first shorthanded tally of the year. Making her
first start in four games, sophomore Eve Grandmont-Berube
(Drummondville, QUE) posted her sixth career shutout with 17 saves
at Union.
