Clarkson Duo Honored at Annual Athletics Ceremony

The Clarkson University Athletic Department held its annual Athletic Awards Ceremony Friday, handing out several year-end awards to commemorate yet another outstanding season of sports at the institution. Standouts Kimberly McKenney and Juana Baribeau were honored.

Winning the Ed Sayer Memorial Award, one that recognizes the individual who exhibits compassion for their teammates, an indelible work ethic, a passion for their sport, and an appreciation of the intricacies, and importance of teamwork, was Clarkson Women’s Hockey player Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT). As captain of the women’s hockey team, McKenney was a constant on the Dean’s list, a member of the Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, and spent time as an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Besides being a top defensemen, McKenney was in charge of the team’s community service efforts and organized a Big Brothers/Big Sister program. She also volunteered at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, volunteered for Special Olympics, Cystic Fibrosis 5k, and Relay for Life.

First-year standout Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) was picked as Clarkson’s Female Rookie of the Year. An all-star as a freshman, Baribeau ranked 12th in the country in scoring among all first-year players and was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team as she gained conference weekly notoriety on four occasions. Her 33 points were the third most ever for a Clarkson freshman as she posted 18 goals and 15 assists.
