Clarkson Duo Honored at Annual Athletics Ceremony
The Clarkson University Athletic Department held its annual
Athletic Awards Ceremony Friday, handing out several year-end
awards to commemorate yet another outstanding season of sports at
the institution. Standouts Kimberly McKenney and Juana Baribeau
were honored.
Winning the Ed Sayer Memorial Award, one that recognizes the
individual who exhibits compassion for their teammates, an
indelible work ethic, a passion for their sport, and an
appreciation of the intricacies, and importance of teamwork, was
Clarkson Women’s Hockey player Kimberly McKenney (Smiths
Falls, ONT). As captain of the women’s hockey team, McKenney
was a constant on the Dean’s list, a member of the Phi Delta
Epsilon Medical Fraternity, and spent time as an active member of
the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Besides being a top
defensemen, McKenney was in charge of the team’s community
service efforts and organized a Big Brothers/Big Sister program.
She also volunteered at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, volunteered
for Special Olympics, Cystic Fibrosis 5k, and Relay for Life.
First-year standout Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) was picked as
Clarkson’s Female Rookie of the Year. An all-star as a
freshman, Baribeau ranked 12th in the country in scoring among all
first-year players and was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team
as she gained conference weekly notoriety on four occasions. Her 33
points were the third most ever for a Clarkson freshman as she
posted 18 goals and 15 assists.
