Team Notes: Senior Day Highlights Weekend Action
The following article appeared February 10 on the Clarkson Web site.
With four games remaining in the regular season, the Clarkson
University Women’s Hockey team is right in the hunt for one
of the top four spots in the ECAC Hockey standings. There is very
little room for a slip up, however, if the Golden Knights want to
secure their second consecutive home-ice berth in the upcoming
playoffs. Guided by co-head coaches Shannon and Matt Desrosiers,
the Golden Knights own a 15-10-5 overall record and stand in sixth
place in the conference with a 9-6-3 league mark.
The Green and Gold, led by senior captain Kimberly McKenney
(Smiths Falls, ONT), are just two points out of fourth place.
Clarkson closes out the home portion of the schedule this weekend
hosting Princeton and Quinnipiac at Cheel Arena. The Knights battle
the Tigers on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then face off against the
Bobcats on Saturday in Senior Day, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Clarkson
is 11-2-2 in Potsdam this season.
Led by their three seniors, McKinney and assistant captains
Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) and Courtney O’Connor
(Chicago, IL), the Knights have continued to excel this season and
are regarded as one of the top teams in the league and a legitimate
force at the Division I level. Clarkson’s Class of 2009 has
led the Green and Gold to another promising season, which has
included mention several times in the national polls, and their
fifth consecutive showing in the ECAC Hockey playoffs. Since
stepping on the Clarkson campus, McKenney, Gaudet and
O’Connor have played a highly significant role in the
emergence of Clarkson as one of the top programs in the country.
The seniors have helped to lead Clarkson to a 79-48-14 record, two
20+win seasons, and a coveted berth in last year’s ECAC
Hockey Championship Tournament.
