Clarkson Duo Takes Part in Hockey Canada U-22 Camp

Clarkson freshmen Juana Baribeau and Katelyn Ptolemy were among a group of 47 players, including nine ECAC Hockey standouts, who recently participated in Hockey Canada’s under-22 strength and conditioning/skating camp.

The camp ran from April 30 through May 3 at Norma Bush Arena in Calgary. Players invited to the camp were selected by Hockey Canada’s regional scouts in cooperation with club teams and Hockey Canada’s 13 branches.

The camp roster includes 12 players from Canada’s silver medal-winning National Women’s Under-22 Team at the 2009 MLP Cup in Ravensburg, Germany and 10 players who won a silver medal with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team at the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship in Füssen, Germany.

Complete roster can be accessed via the Hockey Canada Web site by clicking here.

Baribeau and Ptolemy, along with the 45 other players were put through fitness testing and skating drills over the course of the four-day camp. Hockey Canada also used the camp as an opportunity to get to know the players and give them off-ice training techniques, as well as proper nutritional guidance. Using the 2008-09 on-ice evaluation and performance at this camp, Hockey Canada officials will make their selections for an August under-22 camp, which will lead to selections for the National Women’s Under-22 Team for the 2009-10 season.

Baribeau made a big impression in her inaugural collegiate campaign at Clarkson and was named to ECAC Hockey’s All-Rookie Team as a left wing. The Golden Knights’ third-leading scorer with 33 points, she scored 18 goals to go along with 15 assists through 36 games. Baribeau, a native of Amos, QUE, was named Clarkson’s Rookie of the Year.

A solid, steady performer on the blueline in her first season with the Green and Gold, Ptolemy skated in all 36 games, recording six assists and a +5 plus/minus rating. A native of Dinsmore, SASK, Ptolemy played for Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team that competed at the 2009 MLP Cup (formerly the Air Canada Cup), January 2-6, 2009 in Ravensburg, Germany.
