Team Notes: Clarkson Hosts St. Lawrence
The following article appeared February 2 on the Clarkson Web site.
After a sluggish ending to a disappointing five-game road trip
the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team will strive to
regain its momentum as it enters the stretch drive of the 2008-09
campaign. The Golden Knights, guided by first-year co-head coaches
Shannon and Matt Desrosiers, will look towards the upcoming home
stand to provide the spark for a strong finish to the regular
season. The Green and Gold host North Country rival St. Lawrence in
the first of five straight games at Cheel Arena when they take on
the Saints Wednesday night, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Capital District
rivals Union and Rensselaer come to Potsdam this weekend, followed
by Princeton and Quinnipiac on February 13-14 for the final regular
season games at Cheel Arena this year. Clarkson is 9-1-2 in Potsdam
this season.
Led by senior captain Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT),
Clarkson owns a 13-9-5 overall record and stands in sixth place in
the ECAC Hockey standings with a 7-5-3 league mark. With seven
games remaining, the Knights are four points out of fourth place,
but with a game in hand over four of the five teams in front of
them.
This past weekend in Central NY, Clarkson managed to gain one
point in league action, playing at Colgate and Cornell. On Friday,
the Knights, behind freshman standout Juana Baribeau’s (Amos,
QUE) 16th goal of the season and a 33-save effort from sophomore
Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY), tied Colgate 1-1 in Hamilton. In
Ithaca on Saturday, Clarkson fell into a 3-0 deficit early in the
first period at Cornell and could not recover, falling to the Big
Red 4-1.
