Desrosiers Competes in Ironman Event

Shannon Desrosiers has competed in many rigorous athletic
endeavors, but none of them took more preparation and dedication
than this year's Ford Ironman USA in Lake Placid.
Desrosiers and 2,339 other participants enjoyed less than desirable
conditions at the 10th Annual event, as a pouring rain slowed down
the participants. However, Desrosiers represented herself well in
her first ironman event, placing 14th among women and second in her
age group (25-29) with a time of 10 hours, 42 minutes, and 32
seconds.
The day-long event consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon of 26.2 miles. Desrosiers placed 190th overall among the 2,340 participants and was 14th among the women, who constituted nearly half of the field. She finished the swim portion in 1:09.01, the bike ride in 5:53.27, and the marathon run in 3:28.18.
