Hurley Signs with MAHL's Mon Valley Thunder
BELLE VERNON, PA -- The Mid-Atlantic Hockey League's Mon Valley
Thunder has announced the signing of former Clarkson all-American
goaltender Kira Hurley. Hurley, from Pickering, Ontario has agreed
to join the Thunder for their upcoming inaugural MAHL season. The
Belle Vernon based hockey team will play their home games at the
Rostraver Ice Garden beginning November 2.
Hurley recently completed a four-year college hockey career with
the Clarkson University women's hockey team. Hurley, 22, was the
first ever member of the Golden Knights Division I program to be
named an All-American when she was named to the second team of the
American Hockey Coaches' Association (AHCA) all-star squad in
March, 2006. Kira has also been an ECACHL Goaltender of the Year
and named ECACHL Goaltender of the Week numerous times. In four
years at Clarkson, the six-foot tall Hurley won 48 games and posted
an impressive 20 shutouts. She also earned Female Student Athlete
of the Year honors at Clarkson and gained league honor roll
status.
"Kira competed very well during our recent Thunder tryouts," said
Head Coach Brian Cersosimo. "She certainly has excellent
goaltending fundamentals and I look forward to her competing to
make the opening night Mon Valley Thunder roster during training
camp in October."
