Landry and Pyett Bears' Captains
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head women’s ice hockey coach Amy
Bourbeau has announced that senior defender Paige Pyett (Milestone,
Saskatchewan) and senior forward Katelyn Landry (Belmont, Mass.)
will serve as team captains for the 2011-12 season. Pyett is a
former ECAC All-Rookie team selection, while Landry was last
season’s team scholar-athlete, earning the academic
excellence award.
“I am very excited to announce the captains for this year.
Overall, our senior class has shown excellent leadership this
offseason,” said Bourbeau. “I am excited about their
group effort in leading the team and it has started to move us in a
new direction.”
Last season, Pyett was an anchor on the backline for the Bears,
making her way back from injury to appear in 28 games. For her
efforts she was earned the Chelsea McMillian Pride &
Perseverance Team Award. In her sophomore season, she played in
just 20 games, but still finished fourth on the team with six
assists. As a freshman, she made an immediate impact and was
recognized as one of the top rookies in the ECAC.
“Paige is a vocal and strong leader,” stated Bourbeau.
“She is very serious and when she speaks people listen. Pyett
is an all around team player who naturally has the respect of
everyone.”
“Being a captain for Brown women's hockey means leading by
example and supporting teammates and staff both on and off the
ice,” said Pyett. "I was very honored to find out I would be
a co-captain of this years' team. It is a great responsibility, but
I know it will be very rewarding."
Landry proved to be one of the hardest workers on the 2010-11
squad and earned her ice time last season. The forward played in
28-plus games for the third-straight season and also made it
three-straight with at least one goal. Landry also tallied two
assists last year, both of which came in ECAC play.
“Landry is a very caring, supportive and optimistic person.
She leads by example and brings a consistent effort each
day,” said Bourbeau. “She is equally dedicated in the
classroom as she is on the ice, and has earned the respect of her
teammates through her constant dedication to the team.”
"It’s an honor and privilege to serve as co-captain of this
team. We are all hard working and all are committed
student-athletes. To be picked amongst such an esteemed group is
truly humbling,” said Landry. “I look forward to all
that the season has to offer and continuing the great tradition of
Brown Hockey."
Brown opens its 2011-12 slate on Saturday, October 22 when they
host Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium.
