Schoedel Named Assistant Coach at Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lucy Schoedel has been named assistant
women’s ice hockey coach in an announcement made by Brown
head coach Amy Bourbeau. Schoedel joins the Bruno bench after
spending the 2010-11 season as an assistant coach at Weslyan
University.
“I am thrilled to have Lucy join our staff. She is
young, but she has a passion for the game and energy for
coaching,” said Borbeau. “Her experience in working
with goaltenders will add depth to our coaching staff. Lucy will
also be involved with our recruiting.”
Graduating from Syracuse University in 2010, Schoedel was an
outstanding goaltender for the Orangewomen over their first two
years as a varsity program. Serving as an assistant captain as a
senior, Schoedel was a two-time nominee for the Patty Kazmaier
Award (the women's equivalent of the Hobey Baker Award for men as
the top collegiate player) and was a team MVP twice. She also was a
College Hockey America All-Academic team choice.
“Lucy played in a program that started at the bottom and
worked its way up,” stated Borbeau. “I believe she has
good understanding of what it takes to build a program.”
Before transferring to Syracuse in 2008, Lucy was a member of the
University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey squad as the
Wildcats won the Hockey East title in both 2007 and 2008. The team
also made an appearance in the Frozen Four in 2008. During her high
school days in Ithaca, N.Y., Lucy captained the boy's ice hockey
team.
Schoedel also has coaching experience at the Cornell Women's
Hockey School (2007 & 2010), Syracuse Women's Hockey School
(2009), New Hampshire Women's Hockey School (2007) and the Goaler
One Hockey Clinic (2009).
