Murphy Honored as Woman of Achievement
Brown head coach Digit Murphy was recently named a "Woman of
Achievement" by the YWCA of Northern Rhode Island, joining 13 other
local women who have made a difference in the lives of girls and
women. Murphy was recognized for the strides she has made in the
field of empowering women.
In two decades of coaching at Brown, Murphy has impacted the lives
of hundreds of young women, while achieving great success on the
ice as well. She is one of the winningest coaches in women's hockey
history, with a career record of 313-200-49, and has seen many of
her former players follow in her footsteps as head coaches
elsewhere. Murphy also operates a highly successful group of hockey
camps and clinics, at which she strives to instruct girls in both
hockey and life skills.
Women of Achievement Awards are recognized nationally. They
increase awareness and appreciation of the diverse contributions of
women throughout the country. This year's award winners will be
recognized at an awards luncheon on Wednesday, September 30 from
11:30am to 1:30pm at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln. It is the
5th Annual Tools of the Trade Luncheon with YWCA Northern Rhode
Island as the host. Deb Ruggiero, local radio personality for
Amazing Women, is the event emcee. Tickets are $50, with the public
welcome to attend, and underwriting opportunities are available.
