Carlton Joins Brown Staff
Brown Head Coach Digit Murphy announced the addition of Julia
Carlton to the women's ice hockey coaching staff on Wednesday. A
2005 graduate of McGill University, Carlton played four seasons for
the Martlets before joining the Quebec Avalanche of Canada's
National Women's Hockey League, serving as an alternate captain in
her rookie season.
While playing with the Avalanche, Carlton helped start a girls'
summer hockey program with team president Vinnie Matteo and former
Brown defenseman Ashlee Drover. She served as head coach of the
Bantam team and assistant coach of the Pee Wee team in 2006, then
was head coach of the Avalanche Midget team in 2007. During the
school year between those summers, she coached the girls' team at a
sport study program, also assisting with boys' teams from grades 7
to 11.
Carlton, a former defenseman, was named McGill's Most Outstanding
Defensive Player as a senior. She graduated from McGill with a
degree in Psychology, with a double-minor in Educational Psychology
and Sociology.
