Weekly Awards Presented to Mercer, Turner & Howe

ALBANY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey women’s weekly awards were announced Tuesday, October 15 as Carley Mercer from Clarkson was voted Player of the Week; Quinnipiac’s Meghan Turner was selected as the Rookie of the Week; and Clarkson’s Erica Howe was tabbed as Goaltender of the Week.

Player of the Week
Carly Mercer, Clarkson University
(Senior, Forward - Exeter, Ontario)

Clarkson's captain combined for three goals and two assists on the weekend to help the Golden Knights sweep Syracuse. She scored both Clarkson goals in Friday's 2-1 win in Central N.Y., and followed in Saturday's 4-0 victory with a power-play goal and two assists at Cheel Arena. She tallied both game-winning goals as the third-ranked Knights improved to 5-0 on the young season. Mercer finished with 13 shots on the weekend and a plus/minus rating of +2.

Rookie of the Week
Meghan Turner, Quinnipiac University
(Freshman, Forward - Bedford, New Hampshire)

Turner recorded two points (1g, 1a) and a tied for the team-leading plus/minus rating (+3) last weekend. She was a key contributor on the Bobcats’ main penalty-killing unit that denied Penn State on all four of their attempts this past weekend. On Friday night she registered her first career multi-point game in the Bobcats’ 5-1 victory over Penn State, assisting on Shiann Darkangelo’s power-play game-winning goal and adding a goal of her own to help seal the win.

Goaltender of the Week
Erica Howe, Clarkson University
(Senior, Goaltender - Ottawa, Ontario)

Howe backboned third-ranked Clarkson to a weekend sweep of Syracuse as the Golden Knights equalled their best start ever at 5-0. She was especially strong in the third-period of Saturday's 4-0 victory over the Orange, making 14 of her 26 saves over the final 20 minutes to post her 16th career shutout. She also made 17 saves in Friday's 2-1 win on the road. She finished the weekend with a 0.50 goals-against average and 977 save percentage.
