Weekend Update: Home Cooking
ALBANY, N.Y. - In the friendly confines of ECAC Hockey rinks,
the home team earned points in four out of the five games last
evening in league action. Home teams - Dartmouth, Rensselaer, and
St. Lawrence - each posted victories, while Union settled for a
tie. The lone road team to score a win was Cornell, which blanked
Harvard. 2-0 in a top ten showdown.
No. 3/3 Cornell 2 at No. 9/9 Harvard 0
*Cornell senior netminder Amanda Mazzotta earned her third shutout
of the season in saving all 22 of the Crimson's shots.
*The Big Red now take sole possession of first-place in the league
standings. Cornell has now won seven consecutive games overall,
nine consecutive ECAC Hockey contests and five in a row against
Harvard.
*The Crimson defense held Cornell to a season-low 14 shots, as well
as stopping all power-play opportunities for the Big Red.
*Despite ample opportunities and 22 shots Harvard was kept off the
board for the second time this season.
At Rensselaer 4, Yale 2
*All four of Rensselaer’s goals game in the second stanza. It
marked the most goals scored in a single period by the Engineers
this season.
*The Engineers put 44 shots on net which was their second highest
output of the season. The top output of shots on the season for
Rensselaer was 50 when they downed Yale, 5-0 on November12.
*Yale senior goalie Genny Ladiges made 40 saves -- her third
straight 40+ save effort.
*Sophomore forward Jackie Raines scored both of Yale's goals on the
evening. She leads the Bulldogs in goals with seven and is second
on the team in scoring with a total of nine points this season.
At No. 10/10 Dartmouth 4, Colgate 3 (ot)
*Senior Reagan Fischer netted the game-winning goal with 25 seconds
remaining in overtime to lift the Big Green to the victory.
*Fischer tallied two goals and an assist and Camille Dumais had
three helpers. It marked the fourth straight win for the Big Green
and the team is unbeaten in their last eight games.
*After Colgate was down 3-0 in the second period it came roaring
back to eventually tie the game with seven minutes left in the
third.
*Junior Jenna Klynstra led the Raiders with two goals in the game.
While in goal, the team had yet another impressive performance from
senior Kimberly Sass who recorded 43 saves, 18 of which were in the
second period.
At Union 2, Brown 2 (ot)
*The Bears battled back on two occasions on the evening to skate
away with a tie. Union never trailed in the contest.
*Brown sophomore Jessica Hoyle's game-tying goal with just 1:57
left in regulation evened the score sending the game into the
extras session.
*Kate Gallagher stopped 36 of 38 shots for the Dutchwomen, while
Aubree Moore made 20 saves throughout the contest for Brown.
At St. Lawrence 3, Clarkson 2
*Saints sophomore Rylee Smith scored her 11th goal of the season on
the power-play with only 3:40 left in regulation and added two
assists, lifting to the victory at Appleton Arena.
*The win, which moves the Saints to 14-7-3 (8-4-1) on the year, is
the eighth consecutive victory for the Scarlet and Brown and third
straight against the Golden Knights.
*With the loss, the Golden Knights saw their five-game league
winning streak come to an end.
*Clarkson outshot the St. Lawrence 34-31. Sophomore Eric Howe
posted 28 saves for the Green and Gold. The Golden Knights were
1-of-5 on the power-play and killed off five off the Saints’
six man-advantage opportunities.
