Weekend Update: Cornell Takes Share of Lead
ALBANY, N.Y. - In the featured game Friday evening the Cornell
women’s hockey team flexed its muscle to post a three-goal
home win over Quinnipiac, 4-1. With the win the Big Red now has a
share of the league lead with the Bobcats. Five other games were on
tap in league play last evening resulting in no surprises with the
higher ranked team in the league standings coming out on top by at
least two goals in each contest.
Clarkson 5 at Yale 2
*Sophomore Carly Mercer ran her point-scoring streak to six
straight games with a career-high four points on two goals and two
assists to lead the Golden Knights to victory.
*The Golden Knights have won their last fourth ECAC Hockey games,
outscoring their league opponents 22-4.
*Senior goalie Genny Ladiges made 40 saves, the third time this
season she has made 40 or more saves in a game for Yale.
*Yale did not get a shot on goal for more than nine minutes at the
start of the second, and after the Bulldogs did put one on Erica
Howe Clarkson took it right back down to the other end of the ice
and scored.
At No. 3/3 Cornell 4, Quinnipiac 1
*The Big Red has now claimed five consecutive contests against the
Bobcats and swept this year's regular-season series.
*Quinnipiac got the game off to a lightning-fast start, scoring
just 21 seconds into the first period. First-line center Kelly
Babstock got a pass on the left side of the net from linemate Kate
Wheeler and then returned the puck to Wheeler for a wide open
goal.
*Quinnipiac held Cornell to just 1-for-7 on its power-play
chances. The Bobcats were 0-for-5 on its extra skater
opportunities.
*Lauriane Rougeau, Emily Fulton, and Laura Fortino each recorded
two helpers on the evening for the Big Red.
At Dartmouth 4, Rensselaer 2
*Despite falling behind 1-0 in the first period for the fifth time
in the last six games, Dartmouth came back to beat RPI.
*Dartmouth took 34 shots in the game, including 19 in the second,
with the Engineers only taking 16 in the contest.
*The Big Green are on a two-game winning streak, and are unbeaten
in their last six games.
*Camille Dumais had a goal and two assists to lead the Big Green
to the conference win.
No. 10/10 Harvard 2 at Union 0
*With Alisa Baumgartner’s insurance goal in her first game
this season, every Harvard position player has now registered at
least a point this season.
*Harvard goalie Laura Bellamy needed just 15 saves to record her
second shutout of the season and second against a conference
opponent.
Princeton 5 at Colgate 3
*Five different players scored as the Tigers extended their
unbeaten streak to five games.
*Senior Rachel Weber made 24 saves in her eighth win of the
season, as the Tigers improve to 8-9-4 overall and remain in third
place in the league with a 7-6-2 mark.
*Kimberly Sass stopped 27 for the Raiders who drop to 8-13-1
overall and 3-7-1 in the league. The Tigers were 1-for-3 on the
power-play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill, as they outshot Colgate
32-27.
St. Lawrence 3 at Brown 0
*Carmen MacDonald turned in a 22-save shutout performance to lift
the Saints to their sixth straight victory.
*The Saints owned a 34-22 advantage in shots on goal and finished
2-for-4 on the power-play. Meanwhile, Brown falls to 5-6-6
(2-5-3) and was 0-for-4 with the extra skater.
