Weekend Update: Final Tune-Ups
ALBANY, N.Y. - At the start of the last tune-up weekend before
League play begins next week eight ECAC Hockey women’s teams
took to the ice Friday evening. The home team won or tied in all
but two of the contests involving League teams with five of the
games decided by two goals or fewer.
At St. Lawrence 2, New Hampshire 2 (ot)
*St. Lawrence pushed its unbeaten streak to five games to start the
2011-12 season Friday, earning a 2-2 tie with New Hampshire at
Appleton Arena.*
*UNH finished the game 1-for-7 on the power-play while St. Lawrence
went 1-for-9.
Union 4 at Syracuse 3 (ot)
*With 10 seconds left in overtime, senior Chelsey Heinhuis' goal
gave Union a 4-3 win over Syracuse (2-6-0) Friday night at Tennity
Ice Pavilion in the first-ever meeting between the two
programs.
*Syracuse held a 34-27 shot advantage and went 0-for-4 on the power
play. The Dutchwomen converted on one of their three chances on the
man-advantage to erase a 2-0 deficit midway through the second
period.
At Princeton 5, No. 8/8 Northeastern 3
*Rachel Weber made 32 saves in her first win over the season, while
Florence Schelling made seven as Northeastern had a 35-12 advantage
in shots. Each team had a power-play goal with Princeton converting
once on three chances and Northeastern once on six.
*After allowing just three goals over her first three games,
Florence Schelling surrendered four goals on 11 Princeton
shots.
At Clarkson 2, No. 4/4 Boston University 2

*The Golden Knights moved to 3-1-3 overall on the season, with a
3-0-2 mark in their last five games. Boston University saw its
winning streak end at three games, sliding to 4-1-1 overall.
*In the five-minute overtime, Clarkson carried play in the Boston
University defensive end for most of the period, enjoying a 4-0
edge in shots, but the Golden Knights were unable to break the
tie.
At No. 5/6 Boston College 5, Quinnipiac 0
*Junior netminder Victoria Vigilanti made 30 saves in net for
Quinnipiac, while her counterpart Corinne Boyles turned away 11
shots for the Eagles. Overall, the Eagles held a 35-to-11 shot
advantage.
*Five different Eagles found the back of the net Friday, as Boston
College wasted no time scoring, netting its first goal at the 1:49
mark into the first period on just their third shot in the
frame.
At Niagara 5, Yale 1
*Forward Kelsey Welch had a pair of goals and an assist to lead
Niagara to a 5-1 win over Yale in the Bulldogs' season opener
Friday night at Ingalls rink. Sophomore forward Jackie Raines
scored the Bulldogs' lone goal.
*Genny Ladiges finished with 32 saves for the Bulldogs, while Abby
Ryplanski had 20 for the Purple Eagles.
Robert Morris 5 at Rensselaer 1
*Senior assistant captain Brianna Delaney tallied a first-period
assist to break the Colonials' all-time record for career points
(98 points).
*Robert Morris went 3-for-9 on the power-play Friday while holding
the Engineers to a 1-for-9 total.
*Despite holding a 23-12 advantage in shots after two periods of
play, Rensselaer was unable to hold off the Robert Morris offense
in the final stanza as the visitors netted two more goals for a 5-1
lead.

At Dartmouth 3, McGill 2 (Ex.)
*The Big Green used two first period goals and a late goal in the
second to secure the victory over McGill.
*The Big Green were the most successful last season when it
registered three-or-more-goals. Over the course of the year,
Dartmouth went 21-1 when it scored three or more goals, but was
1-11 when it scored two goals or fewer.
*Dartmouth will visit Boston College Sunday in a battle of top ten
teams. Dartmouth is 12-7 when it opens on the road compared to a
13-2 record when its first game is at home. In season opening
games, the Big Green are 25-9.
