Weekend Update: Near Misses

ALBANY, N.Y. - Tight finishes and close calls highlighted the games involving ECAC Women’s Hockey teams Friday. As a result, the top seven teams in the League standings are separated by four points with Quinnipiac, Cornell, and Harvard having only been defeated once each.

No. 2/3 Cornell 3 at Princeton 1
*The Big Red was held scoreless in a period for the first time all season when it went without a goal in the first 20 minutes.
*Despite having its full group of skaters for the first time in nearly two weeks, the Big Red was held to their lowest goal output of the season (three) by Princeton. Cornell is still averaging 6.43 goals per game, which leads the nation.

At Quinnipiac 6, Colgate 2
*Sophomore forward Kelly Babstock became the Bobcats's all-time points leader in impressive fashion Friday garnering a game-high four points (two goals, two assists), as well as netting the game-winning tally in the team's 6-2 victory.
*Quinnipiac led Colgate in the shot department, outshooting the Raiders 39-to-27 in the game. Junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti turned away 25 shots for Quinnipiac, while Kimberly Sass made 33 saves for Colgate.

At No. 9/9 Harvard 2, Clarkson 1
*Harvard, playing at home for the first time this season, netted two goals in a 47-second span late in the second stanza to take the lead after trailing 1-0.
*The win for Harvard over the Golden Knights gives them the season series sweep for the first time since 2007-08.*

St. Lawrence 2 at Dartmouth 0
*St. Lawrence rookie goaltender Carmen MacDonald earned her first collegiate shutout making a career-high 38 saves.
*Despite holding a 38-18 advantage in shots, Dartmouth could not find the back of the net and suffered its first League loss.

No. 1/1 Wisconsin 4 at Rensselaer 3
*Rensselaer received two power-play goals mid-way through the second period as senior Jill Vandegrift and sophomore Jordan Smelker gave the Engineers a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame.
*Wisconsin held a 38-26 lead in the shots, while both teams netted a pair of power-play goals with RPI going 2-for-5 and the Badgers going 2-for-7.
*Carolyne Prévost scored her ninth goal of the season during the Badgers' first power-play of the game for her 100th career point.

Brown 4 at Maine 4 (ot)
*Freshman connection of Sarah Robson and Brittany Moorehead put Brown up 1-0, just 41 seconds into the game. Moorehead was able to set up Robson for her second goal of the season
*There were five total penalties in the overtime period, three on Brown and two on Maine, but neither team could take advantage as the game ended in a 4-4 tie.

At No. 9/9 Mercyhurst 9, Yale 1
*Freshman forward Stephanie Mock got Yale on the scoreboard at 14:31 of the first with a power-play goal. Mock now leads the Bulldogs in scoring (2G-4A-6PTS).
*The Lakers started fast scoring twice in the game's first 45 seconds and then took a commanding 5-1 lead into the lockerroom after the first 20 minutes.
*For the second time this season the Bulldogs have faced 65 shots on net. Yale previously surrendered 65 at the hands of Cornell on Oct. 28.
