Weekend Update: Engineers Earn Tie
ALBANY, N.Y. - In a light schedule among ECAC Hockey
women’s teams last evening, which saw only three teams hit
the ice, Rensselaer remained unbeaten earning a 2-2 overtime tie
with Vermont; No. 9 Quinnipiac was edged by visiting Maine, 4-3;
and Colgate dropped its season opener, by a 3-0 count at New
Hampshire.
Maine 4 at No. 9 Quinnipiac 3
*The loss drops Quinnipiac's record to 1-2 on the season, while
Maine improves to 3-0.
*The Bobcats jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead on goals by
Bethany Dymarzyk, Chelsea Quillchuk, and Brittany Lyons, but the
Black Bears would come roaring back to score four straight goals
led by Kayla Kaluzny who found the back of the net twice.
*Overall, Quinnipiac outshot Maine in the contest, 35-to-28.
*Junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti made 24 saves in net for
Quinnipiac, while her counterpart Brittant Ott turned away 32 shots
for Maine.
Rensselaer 2 at Vermont 2 (ot)
*Rensselaer held a 2-0 lead, but couldn't hold off the Catamounts
as the University of Vermont battled back for a 2-2 tie at
Gutterson Fieldhouse Friday night.
*Rensselaer senior captain Alisa Harrison netted her team-leading
third of the season.
*Between the pipes, RPI rookie netminder Brianna Piper earned the
draw with 33 saves. Her counterpart, Kelci Lanthier stopped 22
shots in the Catamounts net.
*With the draw, the Engineers move to 1-0-2 on the young season,
while the Catamounts are now 0-0-2 overall.
*Vermont is 0-0-2 this season against ECAC Hockey opponents this
season.
*Rensselaer improves to 6-8-3 all-time against the Catamounts.
At New Hamshire 3, Colgate 0
*UNH won its third consecutive game to remain unbeaten at 3-0-0
while this game marked the season opener for Colgate, which has
lost all five lifetime meetings against the Wildcats at the
Whittemore Center.
*The Wildcats' offense was led by Kristina Lavoie and Jenna
Lascelle, both of whom recorded a goal and assist.
*Jenn Gilligan recorded her first-career shutout with a 19-save
effort that backboned the University of New Hampshire to the
victory.
*Senior Raiders goaltender Kimberly Sass had a game-high 26 saves,
13 of which were in the second period.
*UNH finished the game with a 29-19 shot advantage. The Wildcats
were 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Raiders went 0 of 6 with
the man-advantage.
