Weekend Update: Streaking Along

ALBANY, N.Y. - Streaks were extended in the first part of weekend play in ECAC Hockey action yesterday, as Cornell (6-0-0), Quinnipiac (4-0-0), and Clarkson (2-0-0) each extended its win streak while posting impressive wins Friday. Strong offensive outbursts were key in all games Friday, with a total of 12 student-athletes recording multiple point nights on the evening.

No. 3/3 Cornell 5 at No. 6/6 Mercyhurst 4
*The Big Red erased a two goal deficit and snapped the nation's second-longest unbeaten streak in the process, as the Lakers (10-3) came into the night on a nine-game winning run.
*Cornell has outshot its opponents in every game this season and remains unbeaten against out-of-conference opponents (4-0) and ranked opposition (4-0).
*Cornell has now won three of the last four meetings between the two teams, including two straight at the Ice Center.
*Nine members of the Big Red registrered points on the evening led by forward Chelsea Karpenko (2g, 1a).

Quinnipiac 3 at Brown 0
*Junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti turned in her fourth shutout of the season, leading Quinnipiac to its fourth-straight victory over ECAC Hockey opponent Brown.
*Vigilanti's fourth shutout of the season increases her career total to 18, moving her into a tie for ninth place all-time in career shutouts among NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Goaltenders.
*Neither team capitalized on its power-play advantages, as Brown went 0-for-4 and Quinnipiac went 0-for-2.
*Sophomore goalie Aubree Moore made 42 saves, under fire all night, for the Bears.

Princeton 5 at Yale 1
*Sophomore Denna Laing (2g) and junior Alex Kinney (2a) had two points apiece to lead the Princeton in the victory over Yale.
*Freshman Brianne Mahoney scored her first career goal, the game-winning goal at 7:49 of the second period for the Tigers.
*With donations still coming in, the Bulldogs raised at least $18,000 for the Mandi Schwartz Foundation and brought hundreds of fans out to The Whale last evening for the “White Out for Mandi” event.

At Clarkson 10, Rensselaer 0
*Five Golden Knights recorded double digit points last evening led by Jamie Lee Rattray (3g) and Brittany Styner (1g, 2a).
*Clarkson’s 10 goals were the second most in team history, and the most in 280 games, trailing only an 11-0 shutout against Sacred Heart in 2004, the program’s first season as a Division I program.
*Clarkson finished the game with a 37-11 edge in shots. Erica Howe and Emily Horn combined for 11 saves in the shutout, while Kelly O’Brien and Brianna Piper finished with 27 saves total.  

At St. Lawrence 3, Union 1
*St. Lawrence finished with a 2-for-3 mark on the power-play and held a 38-13 advantage in shots on goal while holding the Dutchwomen to a 0-for-2 mark with the extra skater Friday night.
*Freshman Christine Valente's fourth goal of the season got Union within striking distance last night. She is second on the team in scoring with seven points.
*Captain Karell Emard's sixth goal of the year at the 15:24 mark of the final period sealed the win for the Saints, with assists going to juniors Kelly Sabatine and Brooke Fernandez.
